Does anyone else think it's weird that LPC (Les Paul Custom) has NOT posted in this thread ?

Except, of course, mine would be gloss black, not Trans

OK, in a related story, dude in Miami finally coughed up the LPC! I called him yesterday before I left for work, and when I got home this morning, there it was!
Figures I had this feeling that if I called him, it'd show up that day just out of coincidence, so I've been putting it off since Monday because of that - and wouldn't ya just know it - I call the guy and it shows up that day.

Anyhoo, no pics just yet - gotta do some tweaks like fix the pickups (falling in) and such
It's beat, though. It took a beating but it took it like a man
The inlays are blueish like the inlays on the JCF Rhoads, and the ebony board is dark - blacker than black - and very densely grained. Looks like it was refretted with tall skinnys.
The neck profile kills easily
Had to have been inspired by an old Charvel

That's funny, 99% of the time if someone calls me looking for thier package, it will show as "Out For Delivery" when I track it.

Re: The Les Paul Thread

Ok, so I need help authenticating the white 3 pickup LPC:

The serial # on the back of the head is 11111 - 5 1's. It has Made In USA under that (both are stamped into the wood, not ink). Gibson's serial chart puts this as a 61.
The neck heel doesn't look as large as on my Standard, and the headstock does not appear the tilt back at the same angle. There is a volute on the back of the head.
It looks like it had a Kahler nut at one time.
The neck is 3-piece mahogany.
The Custom doesn't feel as heavy or look as thick as my Standard, though I haven't weighed or measured anything.

Call me paranoid, but I'd like to know if this is really a Gibson LPC or a copy. It's damn nice, whichever it is, I just wanna know
Headstock imprints can be faked and painted over to look real, so the Made in USA is no guarantee of authenticity, and the headstock angle and body thickness concern me. As well, the side markers on the neck binding are black Marks-a-lot, and the binding looks a lot like paint or white primer in some places (heavy wear in those places as well).
I just took out the middle pickup - it was originally a 2-hum.

Re: The Les Paul Thread

Gibson serialization during that time period was anything but perfect, but as you say, the 11111 does indicate a possible 1961 model. Me, I'm a skeptical SOB and I'd be sweating Jim Beam Black Label until I could verify the info. Post a pic and let me see if I can provide some additional info. Also, what kind of tuners does it have?

Re: The Les Paul Thread

It's got Grover tuners and the mounting screws are 90 degrees - right in the middle of the bottom of the tuner going towards the body. There are no other visible tuner mounting holes.

Forgot to mention earlier, the "i" in Gibson has no dot.

I'll have to wait till tomorrow for pics (gotta work tonight, need to organize some stuff before I start snapping pics )

Re: The Les Paul Thread

The Grovers probably arent correct for a 61 or it being a light, but I am no expert on Gibsons.

Re: The Les Paul Thread

No Les Pauls in 1961, they were the SG shaped 'Les Pauls' only. (I believe, I am far from an expert, though) Gibson re-used their serial numbers, over and over a bunch of times. From the way you described it, with the Made in USA stamped and the volute, would lead me to believe it is an early 70's. I will double check my Les Paul book.

This is my baby. As far as dating, I think it is from the 60's....but it is not original anymore. It is on its 4th refret, has new Grover tuners(well, 87ish ), EMG's in it now, and the back of the guitar and the neck are pretty worn from use/abuse
