Yes, I'm an Ace Frehley fan and yes, I bought this damn thing and it'll arrive tomorrow. It is used, but as you can see from the pics, it's in great condition. The dealer I bought this from was the original seller, so I get full warranty. As for the condition, it's damn near dead mint.

So, I'm gonna be eating beans and weenies for the next month.

Why the hell do some Ace's have those pickguards? Mine sure never came with one..............

This was seemingly a great deal for what looks like a Les Paul Studio Lite.
If I had the extra bucks. blah...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">From what I've been told, there were 300 Limited Edition Ace Frehley Les Pauls that had more flame on top and they also had metal covers on the back of the control cavities. One plate had an Ace playing card and the plate over the toggle switch had his signature (or some bullshit like that).

Anyway, this model was sold without the pick guard installed, but it was included in the case. This particular model was built in the Custom Shop where as the model I have is built on the regular assembly line. After my dealings with the Custom Shop, I'm about to decide the better stuff comes from the "newbie" builders.

If your headstock serial number begins with "ACE***," then you have a Custom Shop axe. If the serial number starts with a "9," then you have a model like mine.

If you don't mind me asking, how can you tell? Our model was made for three years, but they didn't have specialized serial numbers. I bought mine from a Gibson Diamond Dealer in San Diego and it's a 1997, but I have no way of knowing if it was a first batch run or not.

The serial number tells when it was made. I cant remember the logic used, but it was something about the serial number telling when in 97 it was made, and when in 97 production started. I'll have to check with someone to get the full story again of how to tell. One thing that I find interesting, is how many Aces have you seen that werent 97s?!? I dont think I have ever seen one...............I think they made them so expensive that they couldnt sell them. In 2000 or 2001 when they stopped selling them the retail price was $6,200..............

Gibson's serialization process is as dingy as my first wife, bless her rotting heart.

Anyway, for non-custom shop guitars, the following formula is pretty standard. My guitar's serial number is 93457588. According to info supplied, the first and fifth number represent the year built which in my case is 1997. The number 588 indicates that it was built in Nashville and was the 288th Les Paul headstock stamped that day. They start at 300 and stop at 700.

Now here's the tricky part. The second and third number indicate the month and day my guitar was built. In other words, my guitar was built on March 4th. The fourth number (5) indicates that my guitar was the fifth guitar built that day.

So, if I've totally confused you, do like I did and take two shots of Jim Beam Black Label and say "screw it, I really didn't give a shit anyway!"

In 1977, Gibson first introduced the serialization method that is in practice today. This updated system
utilizes an impressed eight digit numbering scheme that covers both serializing and dating functions. The
pattern is as follows:

YDDDYPPP
YY is the production year
DDD is the day of the year
PPP is the plant designation and/or instrument rank.
The numbers 001-499 show Kalamazoo production, 500-999 show Nashville production. The Kalamazoo
numbers were discontinued in 1984.

Example; 00493550

YY 03= Year 2003
DDD 049= Date Made February 18
PPP 550= Rank 50th Guitar made that day in the Nashville Plant
