Fender strat Texas Special

Hey folks Im thinking of picking one of these up for blues and lighter playing styles. They seem pretty cool. Anyone have one? Thanks a lot guys.

I played one in a shop one time. It felt really good and played really nicely. It was better than the American Deluxe they had in. However, since I am not much of a Texas blues player, I couldn't justify getting one. Though, it had the Pearly Gates in the bridge and that is one nice pickup.

Well I kind of feel like getting into blues. Plus a strat is a versatile guitar and its always good to have one in your mix of guitars. That and Les Paul and then tons of Jacksons. Cant go wrong with that.

I always get that feeling, too. Then I find another Charvel I want. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] I'm actually thinking about a Wolfgang next. Anyway, when I think of Strats, I look at the Carvin Bolt and the older U.S. Hamer Daytonas. Fender necks never felt right to me and I can always change pickups to suit my mood.

yeah the blues feeling has been hitting me strong lately. I also have a craving for a wolfgang. they just look like they play soooo good and look so cool.

SRV strat, Jimmy Vaughan Strat. Texas Special pickups do the blues really good.

thanks man. Thats whay i figured. Match that with a nice 40 watt fender tube amp and Ill be ready for the blues. I just love the way you can express emotion in the blues. Plus blues will help for metal too. Since a lot of solos and stuff are based off blues influence. I think? I also dig the peavey wolfgangs. Might get one of those in a year or two.

i the pickups are about the only difference between the Texas Special and the regular USA strat. Id love a 57 reissue but I'd never spend that much on a strat. I like the finish they put on the 50s necks. Fender has a new model that has a tint to the neck that i might check out too. thanks for the heads up.

They are ok at best. I replaced the Texas Specials in my strat for Dimarzio Virtual Vintage pups. In my opinion they sound better and are dead quiet. The texas specials are quiet in only two positions. I love my Strat and play it all of the time, but the noise was a factor. I love the VV. I got them for the lack of noise but found out that there tone is outstanding.

The 60 cycle single coil noise that the Texas Specials put out in positions 1,2 and 5 is part of the vibe.

No it is not. Look, if I had a vintage strat with amazing sounding vintage pups, I would deal with it. But there are pups out there that sound way better that the Texas Specials AND DON'T HAVE THE NOISE. Now, if you thing inferior tone and noise is better than better tone with or without the noise, then enjoy. I wull say this much. I put up with the noise for awhile. It didn't bother me THAT much, but since the tone wasn't that great, I decided to take a gamble. My friend does not like Strats. He does like mine, but wouldn't play it much because of the noise. He loves it now and even commented how much better the pups sounded. There are many other better sounding, traditional pups out there that are still noisy. I have no problem with that. At least in that situation you are getting the tone. Have 10 guitars, most of which are high end. The Strat is pretty much my favorite now and is the lowest end guitar I have. It is a basic, beat up Strat plus with the Virtual Vintage pups, CTS pots and a Dimarzio Shockwave preamp (which I mostly use for the neutrick jack) Even my Anderson sits on the wall. These pups are that good.

There're several good low noise single coil pups out there (e.g., Fender's Lace Sensors & Duncan's Vintage Rails) but I've yet to hear a low noise single coil with the quack of a traditional single coil.

Then try the VV. Mine sound more Straty then the Texas Specials. That is entire point.

it wont be my only guitar. Ive got a early 90s pro soloist and rhoads but the rhoads has quite a few problems with it. Still my fav guitar. I just want to find me a nice strat to fix up a little and make it into a blues strat but with my own choice of hardware and stuff. I might go for the fender lace sensors.

Definitely try to find a guitar equipped with Lace Sensors and sit down with it for a while before you shell out the $$$ for a set. Personally I like them but I've often heard then described as sounding "harsh" or "sterile".
