• Polish-made Ran Guitars

I believe that some of you heard of a group called Vader from Olsztyn, Poland. These guys play Ran guitars. For those of you, who are interested in them, here's a link

http://www.ranguitars.com/_en/index.htm

I have a copy of Ibanez Jem. It looks like this

except mine is all black and has EMG 81/SA/81 pickups in it. I don't think Ran makes them any more, but probably if you asked them, they would.

Re: Polish-made Ran Guitars

I would like to try one very much.

I spoke with Mauser a few times about his and he seems to like it quite a bit. Although Peter is using BC Rich now.

LOL @ Jerry. Well, I encouraged Meta to post a thread, but I thought it was gonna be mainly about his own Ran!

Ok metafaza, please tell us what it's like, some detailed info!

As Jerry said, there's been lots of threads on Ran in the past, and I'm pretty sure people would like to hear about the quality etc.

Give us a review please!

Re: Polish-made Ran Guitars

metafaza plz post a review , i'm from Poland by myself and expect playing one that was about 10 years old and rather low end ( assuming from the price even back then ) it wasn't so cool , but i assume it was because it was a low end model .

also there's something strange - in PL some people bash them and in europe all the people love them ... i'm confused

seems that you're the only one person that i know that has em ( ok i also met a kid in a rehearsal that said they we're very good - he had the hammet copy)

Re: Polish-made Ran Guitars

First things first. Hail to all Polish guys on the forum! Hail to all Vader fans!

A friend of mine promissed to help me with the pictures, so I hope some time in the future you'll be able to see my Ran Jem.

Mine is about 7 years old. The body is alder. Neck is maple with maple fretboard, so it's basicaly all maple. I chose to get it painted, so mine Ran is a completely black guitar. One of my friends claims, that lacquered fretboards play faster. Well, comparing it to my SL2H, I don't think so. It has a Schaller Floyd and tuners. At that time it came either with EMGs (couldn't afford it back then) or Merlin pickups. I didn't like Merlin pickups, so I changed them for EMGs later. Now it's equiped with 81/SA/81. I'll put 85 in the bridge pretty soon. The all access neck joint is very comfortable, I can't say a bad word about it.
The only thing I don't like about it, and it's very subjective and personal, is the feeling of fragility I have when I play it. I'm thinking about the neck. Someone once said that it's copied from Ibanez's Jem, but made even thiner. As I said, it's just my opinion. It may be coming from the fact, that I started learning to play the guitar on an old Russian accustic with the neck size of a log I use 9-46s and never had any problems with tuning it or staying in tune. I can set the action pretty low, but I prefer it a bit higher. I don't know if all the necks come in the same shape/size, but since now they put 10-48s on them I guess ther are confident they're going to withstand that sort of pull.

I was thinking about selling it since I got my forever dreamt of Jackson, but having played both side by side I decided to keep it.

I hope I answered at least some of your questions here. If you have more.... keep'em coming!

If it's good enough for Vader, it's good enough for me

yes, this Ran thread is officially expired.

Yes, Vader are good. I wonder how many of you heard Jesus Chrysler Suicide or No Means No. Both groups are from Poland, they play different music than Vader, but I think they're pretty original. I'll try to post some links to their music, so anyone interested can check them out.
