• Frampton Les Paul?

Hey Folks!
Anyone out there played the Peter Frampton Signature Les Pauls? I've been seriously considering getting one, but I've read that they "chambered" the body to make it lighter, and that scares me. I do dig the wiring setup though- it has the 3 pickup config (ala Frampton Comes Alive)and the middle pickup has it's own volume knob, (it replaces the bridge tone knob) so you can blend in the middle pickup at will. Apparently that's how his old Les Paul was wired. Soooo, if anyone out there has played one, please lemme know. I could always just rewire my 78 LP Custom to those specs. I played one at a GC here when they were blowing it out (they probably still have it). The guitar was well balanced and looks pretty cool. This is a Custom Shop guitar. It was truly sad. The nut was cut so horribly that I could freely slide a quarter under the strings at the first fret all the way across - I bet I could have gotten close to two quarters under there. The manager at the store and he came over and told me not to bother with the guitar because he said it sounded terrible. After speaking with the manager and the fact that it was literally unplayable I didn't bother plugging it in. I doubt they are all this bad. I kind of wonder why GC didn't bother taking the time to set it up. Instead they have a guitar that lists for $5562 that normally sells for $3599 marked down to $2399.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Guitar Center in Kirkland, Washington. It could be a kick ass guitar. I'd just check into the return policy. I just didn't pursue it since by the time I saw it I had bought a Gretsch Setzer and two Fender Custom Shop guitars within a week

If they still have it and you want it, I'd be more than happy to go back there and check it out more thoroughly and report back. I'm always happy to go to a music store and play guitars.

Tim,
Thanks for the info! I called out there yesterday and tracked it down, but it had been sold. (which doesn't surprise me at that price) So I did a little more poking around, and found one at Rockit Guitars in Brea, CA for $3000. The guy knocked it down to $2500 so I snatched it up!

It's number 204 of the original 500 limited run. That's why I have my "Panic Sale" going on over in the classifieds section!
Thanks for your initial reply though, it made me go buy one!
By the way, how is that Gretsch Setzer??

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Too funny! I was in Annaheim last week and took a couple hours away from Disneyland to cruise the local music stores and I was at Rockit Music and saw the Frampton on the wall. I almost reached for it to see if it was better than the one I played.

Congrats! Let us know how it turns out.

Oh, the Gretsch kicks ass! I love that guitar. It is spanky

Re: Frampton Les Paul?

I discussed the Frampton LP with my tech last night. He's played one and fell totally in love with it. He said the guitar, with it's sound chambers, is incredibly resonant. The only modification he recommended was installing a bone nut to replace the stock plastic. Once that's done, the tones ring out nicely.

I know a dealer in San Diego that has a new Frampton LP in stock. It's numbered in the 300's. If you are really interested in a fine LP, let me know and I'll give you his name, number and store name. Trust me, he's a Gibson Diamond dealer and only carries top quality stuff.
