• Calling all B.C. Rich Experts once again!

Chris's guitars has this beat ass warlock with a headstock crack, could make a nice fixer upper, but does anybody know were this thing was made? Chris lists of "unknown origin" Which meens to me, that its probably an import.

What do you all think ?

Just a stab,...does that serial say 0393?

Neck thru, Kahler, with that headstock and logo,.. it seems pre class axe custom shop. It looks mid 80's. That case too, definitely looks 80's. An 83? Does it have made in USA anywhere?
Someone should have a record of this serial somewhere at BC Rich.

The serial definately starts with a "U" I used to own that guitar (not from Chris) and I scoured the B.C. Rich forum for info on it! The general opinion was it should have Grover tuners, the labled tuners are import, and the serial makes no sense. I don't think the inlays are correct either! Burnie Rico jr. was asked about it and he didn't think it was USA either. I bought it from a music store as a USA and found no indication that it was so I returned it. I kinda miss it though it had a real nice neck and when I questioned the integrity of the repair, the guy turned the guitar upside down and practicly put all his weight on the neck! Trust me, that headstock is NEVER coming off!

Those tuners are definitely import. My NJ series Bich has the logo tuners like that, but with different buttons.

UO serial number were "custom" imports. i say custom because they were just not the standard.
ask for pics of the routes. if the truss rod route drops like a C/J. the control route looks nice & smooth no rough sides. the headstock veneer ask him if its paper thin or 1/16". all signs of IMPORT. & the hardware as well but hardware can be changed & during some eras of bcrich were a mish mosh of what was laying around.

It's a US Series guitar....
Body and neck built in Mexico and finished and assembled in the US. Yes..the import tuners are bone stock also! I've owned lots of these guitars over the years...they were neckthru US BC Rich's without the handmade price. They didn't run for very long.
As a matter of fact...I think they only appeared in the 1986 Catalog...they were gone after that.

they were decent right up there with the OLD early 80's Rico & NJs. ive owned a couple & Ken thanks for the info i was unaware. I had always thought they were MIJ, since thats what they looked & played like & had the same routes too.

IMO the guitar is over priced if it were MINT $500 would be top dollar. that condition $150

Re: Calling all B.C. Rich Experts once again!

I do not believe Agathis was used much back then (80's). I'm not an well read expert on imports or even US, but agathis seems to have come into use predominantly in the later 90's.

This definitely seems mid 80ish.

That neck looks maple or mahogany.. so I assume the entire guitar is of the same wood.

Like I said...'86 maybe into early '87 was the only year(s) these are believed to have been in production. They were essentially budget US guitars. I'm not 100% sure of the wood used...but I'm pretty sure Maple neck with some other cheapo-abundant body wood. They only sold for $800.00 brand new. I remember walking into Sam Ash on W. 48th Street in NYC and seeing the walls lined with them back in '87!! What a sight that was to behold! Right next to them were the hottest Strat and Pointy head Charvels of the period also! The image is forever burned into my memory!

look real, but them tuners are on my 84 import eagle (NJ)
That's still a bad ass guitar! I'd get it or let me get it

So, were they decent guitars? With a quality neck / body? Or were they that agathis stuff
