• Rand Guitars

Please weigh in on what you know about these guitars, no matter how minute. I'm being offered a Rand prototype, and I can't find much online...just the troll's page:

    http://www.edromanguitars.com/guitar/home_ran.htm

    and this one:

    http://www.guitarshop.net/randredpurple.htm

I guess Viv Campbell played one about 15 years ago? I know they are neck-through with 27 frets and the angled fretboard. The guy who made is named Rand Havener?
The guitar I'm interested in is a King V shape with a single hum and OFR.

    Re: Rand Guitars

Ive never seen a Rand V.....Hmmm, maybe I did see one, but its probobly only 1 of a few made. I think total production of Rands would be around 100 units. Grab it, it will never be a valuable collectable, but it will be a good rare conversation piece when you take it to a gig............And they play quite well, although the prototypes wouldnt be too hot in the playability department, and would be a little crude........

X, they have a website, but don`t know the link? That guitar is way cool!! Kinda like a Hamer Cali, but with the neck thru, I would love to have one if the necks aren`t too thin? i love it Jack.

        Re: Rand Guitars

I had one for a while. Very nice guitars...mine was the double cut model. It had two Tom Anderson pickups, OFR, 27 frets, mahogany neck and body & a pau ferro board. The neck was actually set and not neck through...but the tenon extended to the bridge pickup area. The neck on mine felt deeper than a Jackson neck, but not not by much.

I think it was as nice as any guitar I've owned...a really well thought out shape and design, too. It weighed a ton, however, and didn't sound as bold as my SL1s, do. But a beautiful thing to behold.

I ended up selling it to someone on this forum, I think...stupid of me. I'd love to score another one. Here is a pic of the one I had:

The headstock shape isn't quite the same as the production Rands:

(I'd prefer the slightly curved production HS)

                      Re: Rand Guitars

I'm pretty familiar with Rands (Long-time JCF'ers may remember my previous posts about these axes). If I recall correctly, less than 100 were made. A bud of mine has one that is absolutely killer. Anderson p'ups, 27 frets, OFR...what's not to like! Excellent axes, wish I could afford to buy everyone I see (though you don't see them very often).

Pretty sure that Rand is still around...Although when I tried to get contact info from Tom A., he said that he was not in touch w/ him. Maybe he was just blowing me off, who knows...

I've never seen that V before, very cool. There seem to be a few prototypes hanging around. I remember seeing a couple for sale in the Philly area not too long ago. I bought a prototype on ebay a couple of years ago. (Guitar was supposedly built for his brother-in-law). Headstock is also slightly different from production. When I get home from work I'll post some pics...

Pretty cool guitars by the look of it. The double cuts have very unique horn cutaways and sculpting on the back of the body.

A pretty cool axe, I must say. To be honest, I never really get a chance to play her. I just plugged her in and she does rip!!! I am telling you...Anderson Pickups RULE!!!!!!!
