I had a Univox Les Paul before, it was a big pile of dung.......As for the Dillion, for a bit more you can get a used Les Paul Studio........

      Hey Michael~

I don't know much about the Dillon, but I own an old 50's Univox Hollow body electric with the spring vibrato bar and two single coils. It was my first guitar my Dad gave me back in the day. It was pretty neat old guitar, though. VERY skinny necks, maybe even skinnier than the old Fender necks. Quality wasn't that great back then. The neck was very soft and had a lot of movement and need constant adjustment. There are differences between a Univox guitar and a Vox guitar. I believe Vox's were far superior guitars. Hope this helps. BTW, the Dillon looks killer with the 3 hum configuration.-

There is a post somewhere around here about the Agile Guitars and the make a killer LP copy from what I've read. Check it out.

I think they can be had at www.rondomusic.com here in NJ.

Usually when it comes to LP copies I would look at
          Japan made ones.
          Edwards/ESP
          Tokai
          Orville
          Burny/Fernandes
          Greco

As well as some of the older Ibanez, Aria Pro, Yamaha, and Memphis replicas from the 70's.

I also, steer clear of bolt on versions of LPs.
          Just seems wrong.

                Re: Ebay Les Paul Copies

Forget the Univox, my first LP copy was a Uni.. the pickups were feedback monsters and it played better than my Tesico, not a high grade quality instrument.

Dillion has become higher priced and is a good new competitor to the Epi's. I've heard the Agiles are not to bad for the money, but again, there are better alternatives.

Try this if you will.. As KH65 suggests, those MIJ copies will usually put a similar new Les Paul Copy to shame offering more for the same money. Check em out.

That's about as high as you want to go..that copy looks alot like a Burny as well. Tokai is getting the most attention and the higher bucks now.
Stateside... people have been paying in the hood of 400-500.00, sometimes slightly less but usually without case. Sellers been asking higher prices on ebay for these lately. If you can snag one of those LP import brands KH65' listed for under 400.00 in decent shape, depending on the model.. you're getting a decent buy.

                          Re: Ebay Les Paul Copies

Thanks for the added info. Sorry if I got your nick wrong.

Heartfield too was from Fuji Gen Gakki plant. Maya was probably made there as well as some other sub brand names you see every once in a while. You know your MIJ stuff well. I knew of the other plants but I do not know their handiwork as well as the Fuji factory. I own a number of guitars from this plant, all are well made.

Now I have question though... were some Hohners were made in Japan? If so, which factory? I know some were made in Korea.. or were they all made Korea? If I recall correctly, some or all L-59's parts were MIJ and assmebled in Korea?

The only thing I do not like about the older Greco headstocks is the spacing of the strings to the nut on the older EG standards. The A string rests on the post of the E. This doesn't seem consistant to a Gibson LP standard as well. The LP Customs I seen were fine.

Stick to K65H's list of Les Paul copies. They actually look, feel and sound like real Les Pauls. (including the heasdstock).

The agile is allright, but doesn't feel or sound like a les paul. Plus the name is pretty gay.

I have no idea what manufacture my copy is.It has the correct headstock and lower bout.Body binding is a bit wider than a real LP.Body wood is of the mahogony family ceredo maybe? The top is maple veneer over I'm not sure what kind of wood, kinda cheezy looking. The top is arched taller and the neck angle is steeper than a real LP.Nice dark rosewood board with MOP trpazoid inlays. If any of this info helps to ID this thing let me know.I'm making a Zakk bullseye copy and have it wired up to a EMG 85 right now and it plays and sounds pretty good just looks like hell because its down to bare wood getting ready for paint.
                              Really? well screw Mark Twain.
