What neck wood for a Les Paul

I am getting a LP Custom made for me and have been toying with the idea of getting it made with a maple neck, ala Metalcops 81 LPC.

This would make it like my 750XL, mahogany body, maple cap and neck. How do LP's with maple necks sound compared to one with a mahogany neck? I was thinking of getting it in one piece maple, would that be possible? I'm sure the luthier will know and he is planning on a one piece mahagany neck at this time.

What do you guys think?

Well, maple is brighter sounding than mahogany, but I've also always heard maple is also a little more stable than mahogany, so it's a tough call. Not that it's a big factor, as there's millions of LPs and other guitars out there with mahogany necks... I guess you'd have to see if you could get your hands on one with maple and one with mahogany and see what sounds best to you. Zakk Wylde seems to enjoy his maple-necked LPs, though. Thanx for the input. I guess I'll stick with mahogany and go for the true LP tone, but I have the option to go another way so I thought I'd try for opinions of those that might know better.

I'm convinced that the tone is affected more by the body and fretboard wood than the neck wood.
Call me crazy, but it just seems that way to me [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Keep in mind also that if it's a set-neck, and you try to do those Rhoads-type neck bends, it will take more pressure to flex maple than mahogany.
