• Got a Les Paul

Got my Les Paul yesterday. It's a Musician's Fiend exclusive "Vintage Mahogany" Studio model. It's got the worn cherry finish, mahogany body/neck, carved mahogany top. It's got no clear coat on it. Or maybe it's just a clear matte satin finish? It sounds and plays very nice, it's relatively lightweight, doesn't sound too dark, and the new Burstbucker V pickups sound pretty cool, on the vintage side, not sure if I'll change them or not yet. The fretwork is nice, maybe a tiny bit of glue on the fingerboard, and the rosewood board was also a little dry and light until I put some lemon oil on it. Overall, I think it's a pretty good value for $899, since it's about $250 or so cheaper than a regular Studio with maple cap.

No dings. It's just the way the wood grain is there, seems a little lighter with the fading. The camera flash seems to have brought it out a little more. The grain pattern is really nice, too.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah, those are the flat top Special models. I thought about one of those, but I like this one better with its archtop.

Yeah, the pearloid traps look really sweet, hard to capture in the photos. The board looks darker in the pics than in person, but I'm sure a little more lemon oil will help it... though, it looks kinda cool, a little streaky, goes with the faded look of the body.

LOL It's getting a little better. Though, that headstock shot came out blurry. Maybe I need to use the macro feature.

Yes, they are getting better and yes you should use that feature when getting close to an object. Read your directions my friend!!

                        Re: Got a Les Paul

besides the finish and the flame maple top, what is the difference between the mahogany special and a les paul standard?

i always get them all mixed up, the mahagony special, the les paul studio, the studio lite, the standardm the classic, the plus, etc...

do they all sound that much different?

and if they don't i would have to say $899 is a solid deal.

That's very nice! The Standard also has binding.
