• Fender Malmsteen Signature - Artist - Japan

I am a Fender model novice so if any of you guys could supply some info i'd appreciate it. I have my eyes on a Japan made Y.M. signature apparently from 1995.

Quality / playability compared to an USA Fender?
USD price new/used?
Stock loaded with Dimarzio YJM + HS-3?
Wood materials used compared to USA models?
Pictures?
Any info appreciated! Thanks.

I would like the same info.... I have been looking at Strats now for a couple of months. Have actually heard great things about the Bonnie Raitt sig. model. Any info would definitely help.

The Jap version doesn't have a brass nut. The early ones also only have stock Fender single coils in them.

I've been jonesing for one of those Yngwie strats with the scalloped maple board and the vintage / eggshell white finish.

Needs more Yngwie....

In fact, I've been tempted to get one of those Fender '72 reissues, and scallop it and throw in the Dimarzios.

I'd like to find one and do some mods to it, but first i have to get the facts and the history of the YJM Sig. I'd like to end up with this design:

I have a Malmsteen Sig. Strat and I love it. It's a 1990 if I remember correctly. The maple neck is as smooth as butter and will rival any US made neck. If you've never played a scalloped fretboard, it takes some time to get used to.

I bought mine used and thankfully, the previous owner had the sense to take out that stacked DiMarzio humbucker and replace it with a Seymour Duncan. The MiMarzio is crap, plain and simple.

I highly recommend this model and if it's early 1990s, they are extremely well made.

Germandeth, crap DiMarzio's? Too hot for a normal Fender sound or? Please posts some pics if you have some. How much did you pay, approx. or what is a good buying price for such a mid 1990's MIJ YJM?

you can buy them new from Ishibashi:

http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/w...j/fender-5.htm

With the current exchange rate they're more than you can get a USA Malmsteen for.

I had a 2002/3 USA Malmsteen and would have been happier if the scallops weren' soooo deep. The older Malmsteen models weren't as deep. The Malmsteen was a great sounding guitar though.
I like the scallops on my Grosh better.

Also, the Japanese Blackmore has a great neck. The scallops are graduated. I had a chance to get one for cheap a while back and am still kicking myself for not getting it.

Sorry, but if you want to play any rhythm on the Malmsteen Strat, shitcan the stacked humbucker. It's made for single note shred fests. Depending on condition, you should be able to score a really good model between $450 and $650.

I would like to know where you can get a Malmsteen sig model for between $450 and $650. I have 2 of them and I shopped big time for them. The cheapest I have ever seen one go for is $800.00 They usually sell for between $800-$950.00

You're talking about US Malmsteens - the MIJ Malmsteens don't bring that much used.

Didn't they have the small headstock and the large headstock US models? Which ones were the small headstock and what years of manufacture?
