<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sorry, but if you want to play any rhythm on the Malmsteen Strat, shitcan the stacked humbucker. It's made for single note shred fests. Depending on condition, you should be able to score a really good model between $450 and $650.

I looked at these last year. Cool guitars, but I decided the neck on the YJM signature was a bit thick for me. I bought a used strat plus that had a neck in bad shape and ordered a warmoth scalloped replacement with an ebony board. I'm very happy with it. The neck is great and I have locking tuners/roller nut, stainless steel frets, and gold lace sensor pickups. Playing the scalloped neck is great, but you need to have a light touch.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I've played several Bonnie Raitt strats, and that's my favorite of the signature models. It has a very nice neck shape, jumbo frets, and a really dense, heavy body (poplar?) that gives lots of tone. For metal, you'd probably want to do the stacked-humbucker thing in it. But it gives you a fat tone just as it is--pretty much what you would expect if you've ever heard Bonnie's slide playing.

To me, the Raitt model is what all of the standard US strats should be like--that should be the starting point.

i heard the string spacing on the raitt is smaller, to accomodate her smaller hands more comfortably. is this true?

              Regarding YJM Japan facts:

The YJM Japan that's for sale where i live, is from 1995, has small headstock, brass nut and stock Fender single coils. Maple fretboard but with a sunburst body I've never seen that before...

              Here's a pic of a 1995 MIJ:

Does it actually have Yngwie's signature on it? It sounds like copying that guitar could be done very easily by scalloping a fretboard an adding a brass nut. With the stock pickups, small headstock, etc., it might be cheaper to put together your own. Of course, you'd have to work on the signature to make it look like Yngwie's. Yes, the signature is on the front of the headstock. That means higher resale value - don't forget. I'd prefer a factory scalloped fretboard rather than ruining a neck myself :-) I've seen too many DIY scallop-jobs that was just ugly as hell. A Warmoth scalloped neck is around $245 + shipping.

I actauly heard once that some of the MIJ models were made of basswood not alder. How weird is that?

But yeah, you can normally mod a regular strat or strat copy and save yourself the cash. Then you can stalk Yngwie till it drives him crazy and he signs it and suddenly you have an Yngwie Signature Model guitar like non other and the picture of him running away to prove it!

Not weird at all. In fact, the Japan Ishibashi YJM Sig has basswood bodys. Yngwie like it.
