It's funny, I was a "Les Paul guy" long before I got into Jacksons, but I pick an LP up now and it feels clumsy to me. I just can't get used to single cutaways anymore, and having to really reach just to get to the 19th fret. It feels like trying to play a tree trunk or something.
But yeah, there's no other guitar that can do that LP tone. I remember on a Rush tour a few years ago, Lifeson played his PRS for most of the show, but brought out a LP for "2112"--his sound instantly got 100% heavier, tighter, and more brutal through the same amp setup.
