• Okay, I have an embarrassing question....

I won this guitar and we talked about it a week or so ago. It has one of these "D-tuna" things on the low E string. I can't seem to get it to do anything. It will move straight back, and straight forward, but nothing changes on the E string. The little chrome thing just moves back and forth. How the heck do I use it? I've never had one before. It's supposed to be tuned to drop-d and it's supposed to be out. Then you push it in and it will raise the note a step.

Oh...okay. Thanks Todd. Also, how do I access the allen head screw to change that string, as the little chrome thing is attached to it?

Will you give us a review....what exactly did it turn out to be?

Re: Okay, I have an embarrassing question....

The mechanics of the D-Tuna is that it's more or less a sleeve that fits over an elongated string lock screw. The sleeve itself acts as a wedge to sharpen (when pushed in) or flatten (when pulled out) the string. To unlock the string from the bridge, just reach your allen wrench inside the sleeve and un-screw it just like you would any other string-lock screw.

              (sorry to be redundant)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, I know...I started that thread, Ron. And to be quite honest, I still don't know what it is. The neck has no markings except for a serial number on the back of the headstock. The guy says the body is a Fender, but there are no markings on the neckplate, either. The electronics are definitely Carvin, except for the humbucker. The dude actually sent along the Carvin humbucker that was apparently taken out of the guitar at some point.

One thing I did notice...where the neck pocket is, on the back of the guitar, it has the funny little shave-away place like the Fender Heavy Metal Strats had. In other words, it's not square...the upper left corner is sort of shaved away. (along with the neck plate, I think...I'll have to look again)

It plays nice, but sounds kinda thin like my Carvin DC127. I may replace the pickups.

I have 30 or so guitars, and to be honest, I never use any alternate tunings. I just thought the guitar looked cool with the reverse headstock, and I got it pretty cheap. It's in great shape, too.

All you need to do is replace the extra long string lock screw with a normal sized one...
