Levin or Lavin Les Paul Copy ...Rhoads ???

Ok, so my brother calls me the other day and tells me he was in an antique shop and the old woman had a guitar on consignment. She knows it was made for someone famous but can't remember so she tells my brother maybe Hendrix. We both had a good laugh and told him I would go look at it. Now for the description:

Flat top LP style.
1 hum 2 sin (singles have BLH or something on them)
Gold non trem bridge like on a USA Hamer
mahogany back, bound maple top
3 piece maple neck
rosewood board w/ diamond inlays (diamonds w/ cuts in them)
Headstock has 3 points 3x3 with a pearl crown inlayed on the face.

So the lady asks me what I think it is worth. I tell her it is impossible to give an accurate price without knowing who built it. It really wasn't drop dead gorgeous to begin with.

She can't find the info so my brother leaves his # with the woman. Fast forward to this afternoon. My brother call and says "Listen to the message this lady left me about the guitar"

Message:" Hi this is *** from ***** I just spoke to the owner of the guitar and he says it was custom made by Levin for a guy named Randy Rhoads of Ozzy Osbournes band, whoever that is. If you guys need any more info on the guitar call me".

I have a good laugh with my brother over this because this seems impossible being that Delores has all Randy's guitars. Besides, I have never seen any photos of RR with any other LP than his white one.

I just thought it was strange how they would pick RR's name out of thin air as being the person the guitar was built for.

SHe obviously has no idea what she is talking about. GIve her 50 bucks for the thing, then research it. If it really is what she says it is,BAM! If not, it's only 50 bucks.

That would be fine, except she wants a grand for it. Too much money to go for on a hunch.

She probably told the owner that someone knowledgable about guitars asked about it, and he's testing the waters. Have her put you in direct contact with the owner, because he has to prove the guitar's authenticity if he expects that kinda cheddar.

Was it a set-neck or bolt-on?

Set neck. No S/N. No name on headstock. Sounds like pure [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img] to me.
