  • Schecter xperts...V-7 w/Maple board?

I just traded off another guitar for this one. It's a black V-7 7 string. Strat body, maple neck, HSS pup config, Lic. Floyd trem, vol, tone, 5 way blade switch, 24 frets with a maple board, black diamond inlays and the headstock is maple finish as well. I havn't ever seen anything like it. It is a 99 model.

Heres the rumor behind it. I was told it was a NAMM one-off model that didn't get alot of attention and never went into production.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Value?

I know Drum City Guitar Land had a couple of those about a year ago. I doubt it was a one of but I'd say they are pretty rare.

I've never seen any 7-string Schecter with a maple board.

By the way, I have the dual-hum version of the V-7. Mine had an amateur refinish before I got it, but it's a pretty nice-playing, nice-sounding guitar--especially for the money. Since yours is an oddity, I don't know about the value, but I only paid $200 for mine, and I doubt you'd ever see one go for over $300.

One thing to watch for--the saddle radius on the Floyd copy is way too flat for the fretboard radius (at least it is on mine), so that the end strings sit pretty high off the fretboard. I shimmed the D-string up a bit--it's really the 'middle' string on a 7-string, and thus needs to be the highest of all seven. But I need to do some more shimming of the saddles next to that string in order to get the action the way I like it.

Also, the Floyd on mine didn't want to return to zero pitch, so I blocked it from upward travel. The bridge didn't look beat to hell, so I think it's just a case of "cheap Floyd copy."

But then, it is a cheaper 7-string, basically in the same niche as the ESP LTD M-107 or M-207. I think the V-7 plays a lot better than the ESPs, though.

I'll put it this way, my maple boarded V-7 is better than ANY 7 string I have ever played. I know, I'm still trying to come to terms with that fact myself. I had an Ibanez RG7420 that I thought was the greatest until I plugged this one in. Mine was put together extra good from what I can tell. The bridge/radius thing on mine has not been a problem at and the action is good enough for me and the many others who have checked it out. I would be willing to bet it's not worth a whole hell of alot dollar wise, but to a Schecter fanatic or collector it moght be. So far it's the only one in existance. Schecter is checking it out for me so as soon as they come up with something I will post it here. Another thing..........if someone could host the pic for I can get a picture up. I'm gonna keep it for sure. It's not stopping me from getting an Ibanez K-7. Thats the cadillac of production model 7 strings IMHO. I would love a Jackson 7 string, but I would like the body to be bigger. They just look funny with a Dinky body to me. Are the Jackson DK7's comparable in feel, tone, playability, ect, to Schectoer or Ibanez? I never got to play one.
