<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ah, would that be GC at 7 corners? They're on drugs with the used guitar pricing in there - they had one of the Sabers for 1K, which is what they were new!

None of the guitars are playable, either. Horrible conditions all around - there's a used Soloist in there that won't even produce sound from the low strings because the setup is so screwed up...

    </rant>

They are overpriced, but they're at least as good - if not better - than the UV, which is also overpriced. Of course, you're not touching a Jackson CS for twice that, and a Petrucci's almost as much, but I see your point - you COULD get a USA Rich 7 for not much more than that.

Or you can buy a Sunset 7 on eBay. For $500, apparently...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">A buddy of mine has one. Next to the GC Sabers, it's my favorite Ibanez 7 string. They do sound pretty good, although the pickups could use some more bite, IMO. The side dots do glow, which is actually pretty cool, and potentially useful.

Of course, the trem is crap, but what can you do? Even replacement with a real Floyd requires moving the posts, if I remember correctly.

I've been meaning to make some of your area gigs for the past year or so, but it sucks getting old, man! It's so hard to find the time, or even remember the gigs--I missed the most recent Dream Theater show because I *forgot all about it*!

I think the A-7 ended first, and I was worried that a flurry of last minute bidding would drive the Sunset 7 out of range, so I had to hit the A-7. But I drove the Sunset up to about $460 before bailing on it (I got the A-7 for about $350)--and it turned out that the Sunset didn't go much higher than that--I was a bit peeved, but I'm happy now, since I prefer neckthrus. The A-7 Elite is a neckthru that plays very nice. And anyway, I never did find the top end of the Sunset winning bidder's proxy--so he might have been willing to pay a lot more than $500.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nope. I emailed him and asked after it ended. He said $500 was as high as he'd go (I'd have gone to $600 for that). I almost went after that one, too - I'm kinda glad I didn't, though, since I got the Washburn much cheaper, and I'd been wanting a maple neck 7 string for a while.

The same buddy that has the K-7 has an A-7+, and they are nice - the balance of the shape messes with me, though. I've almost bought several different C-7+'s, though I thought they were both set neck, not thru?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The C-7+ was a set neck, but the A-7 Elite was neckthru. I think it was the only neckthru 7-string Diamond Series guitar that Schecter made. They only made them for like a year or two. Classic Axe out in Centreville had one in stock forever that the guy couldn't give away--though he had managed to get rid of it by the time I decided to buy it...

The Avenger shape hasn't been a problem for me, so far, but I can see how it might be--that top horn is pretty 'intrusive'. I know that 7-strings aren't the fad anymore, but I wish that Schecter would make a 7-string version of the C-1+ Classic. I love the way that guitar plays, and a 7-string version would rock.

Even Jaxx get be pretty bad if the place is packed.

But there's that 'gettting old' thing again--stuff like that never used to bother me as long as I had a beer in hand...

                I miss my Carvin 7's

I now have an ESP/LTD H-207 which I love for the money I paid. And it satisfies what little bit of 7-string insperation I get these days.

My H207 is pretty good - if I hadn't got such a sweet deal on the Washburn, it would still be my backup. As it is, I now have three 7 strings.

Tell me about the Carvins - I played a used one, briefly, but I haven't spent much time with one.

Both of them played like butter. Very round neck and smooth lines. Best bang for the buck I've ever found in a guitar.

For those following this thread, there are several good 7 string available on evilBay right now, including a maple-necked Carvin and a slightly different (different production year?) Washburn Sonic 7 than the one I have. (It's got 24 frets and a different control layout, and Duncan Invaders.)

This makes four of these guitars I've seen, and none of them were the same. Odd.

Anyway, if anybody has an urge to jump on the the seven string bandwagon, there are plenty of good used chances out there right now.

I got out of the 7 string phase in my ever changing style and went to something really heavy. Schecter CB2000 Celloblaster. Try rippin leads on one of these!!!

With the thin neck, I was somewhat concerned that the neck might warp or twist but it never occured while I owned it. I wasn't overly impressed with the pickups but they weren't too bad. I ended up trading it a guitar show in Dallas for a PRS CE. I guess never was completely sold on the 7-string concept, as I have enough trouble with just six!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I want to get my hands on one of those white ones. I had the green one, the UV777GR (bought in 1993) but traded it a few years back for a 2000 UV777BK. I miss the neck profile. It was thinner on the original models. The white ones are the classiest of the original 4. Plus I have an RG 550 that is white w/ a rosewood board and they would look great together.

I'm not completely sold on 7 strings either but I like to have one (or 2) around just for something different. I'll always play 6 most of the time though.

And you know what? I don't mind the stock DiMarzio Blaze pickups at all. It just kills me when a guitar comes with good DiMarzios - not the crap such as the NEW-7's that came in the RG 7620 - but good ones, and guys switch them out! To me that says, there is a mentality that anything stock, sucks. Even if it doesn't.

I absolutely love my RG7620...aside from the pickups, which are weak as hell. I'm thinking of swapping 'em out for an Evolution 7 and an Air Norton 7...

I think the maple board held it back--heck, if it had ebony, I would have snagged it on one of its earlier listings. I'm thinking of getting a Carvin, but I'm just not that fond of the Carvin tone anymore--they tend to be somewhat trebly/bright sounding. You can hear that on Tony MacAlpine's recent 7-string work with his Carvins.

But I may still give one a try, anyway. I suspect lots of mahogany in a Carvin (like the one on eBay) would help eliminate the bright sound.
