  • Customizing GMW...need tone wood help

I'm planning to get a Strat sounding guitar, with 3 single coil. My problem is, how will the tone be affected, if I change alder or ash body to mohagony, while the neck and fretboard is still maple? Will the glassy bright tone that I want be drastically changed?

Besides, what's the difference between ash and swamp ash?

Check out this link on woods at the Warmoth site: Warmoth

If at all possible, see if you can find a store that has several strat-style guitars in different woods and try them out. While a lot of other items (such as the builder, hardware, etc.) can effect the tone, this might be one way to sort of see what you like for the body wood. I got to do something like this when I bought a Grosh several years ago and it was very interesting to hear the difference between ash and alder in a side-by-side comparison.
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.
