Re: Ibanez Jem vs GMW Green meanie

BTW: While I did not own the GMW Greenie, I do have one of his (and I just ordered another). Should tell you something.

holy apples and oranges!

interesting that the original green meanie was mady by tom anderson, i thought it was a charvy.

about the parker comment, i've played many of the high end ones. if you liken them to toys, i have to really question your sanity! granted they're light, but they play and sound amazing.

And yep! if comparing a Jem and a Parker in terms of weight, the Parker weights more like a toy.IMHO And Parker are nice guitars just need a floyd

Re: Ibanez Jem vs GMW Green meanie

Although Tom Anderson had nothing to do with the Charvel Green Meanie, I would still like to address the comment comparing Andersons to Jems. I have owned multiple Andersons and a Jem. The Jem I got used and had a problem that resulted from abuse from the previous owner...that was the only reason I still don't have it. I still have one of my Andersons, but I got rid of an absolutely beautiful Cobra in mint condition, because it was lacking soul. The Jem had everything. Playability, tone, quality build and looks (if that is your type of thing.) I wouldn't diss it because it is a mass produced guitar. I love Andersons, but that doesn't mean that they are better than Jems. They might be in a general sense when compared to Ibanez in general, but Jems are high end instruments.

Re: Ibanez Jem vs GMW Green meanie

Ooops....my mistake regarding the origins of the Green Meanie...I had confused it in this thread with the Anderson actually being the pre-curser to the JEM...thats why Anderson was bent out of shape when Vai went with Ibanez..check it out:

JEM prototype....

Green Meanie origin...

And to BigDaddyD - I love my Andersons too - but I just sold one to buy another GMW heh, I might even sell the other one before the week is out - considering I can nearly buy 2 GMW's for I can sell the Anderson for...

Back to the original discussion - i still believe buying a Green Meanie replica from GMW is a better move than a JEM.

Re: Ibanez Jem vs GMW Green meanie

The Popular JEM is the 7VWH which is alder and actually less expensive than the Blue sparkle jem offered right now. I like Jems... only one complaint they cost too much. I got a blue sparkle from Pete (xxcreaturexx) and they were blown out at 999 good for that price... Now at the 1700-1800 new without a case foolishness

Re: Ibanez Jem vs GMW Green meanie

ive played a couple of USA parkers & think they too play like toys. tho i havnt played one setup with 10's or bigger, which is what i prefer.
& yes Jems are high end ibanez's i never said anything bad about the workmanship, playability, or quality of parts. My problems is BASSWOOD body, & a neckpocket that holds the neck on the side only. the neck pocket is routed as part of the neck pickup route. I also find the tone to be thin. not really a problem for shred or heavy metal tones but noticable when playing clean or overdriven. but i guess if your looking for JEMs or green meanies your looking to shred anyway. & comparing a JEM to a Wayne green meanie....Wayne necks are HUGE compared to jem necks not even close. if i had to choose between a GMW & a Wayne ide probably go GMW...& i own a wayne.

That is the Anderson prototype not a Jem prototype.

I have played a few Jems and they are pretty nice. I like the white one. One thing I cannot stand is the damn monkey grip which probably has prevented from buying one

Although I haven't played a GMW mean greenie I would go with GMW. There is a reason there is so much praise for Lee. He does fabulous work and you can pick and choose whatever you want. I just orderd one and you can call and talk to Lee and go over you specs and make sure he's seeing your vision, try doing that with Ibanez.
