Now that my intense pain has subsided (Seriously guys, ear infections are a real pain. To avoid them, don't go swimming, hang around kids, or let someone lick your ear after they've muffdived Christina Aguliera), I can give you all a run down of my day at the GUITAR STORE!
My brother took me out to Pinkston Music out in Gulfport, Mississippi. I mainly chose to go there because I saw on the G & L website that they were a dealer. So, after some preliminary shopping to please my bro's g/f who also came along, we arrived at the GUITAR STORE! Upon entering the store, I just basked in the glow of sooo many guitars. They had a fine selection, as good or better than the GC in N'awlins.
I made a right turn at the acoustic models, and I'll break that down for you:
1. Acoustic guitar whose make and model I forgot;
Didn't sound like much, they wanted 600 bucks or something for it, my $40 thrift store Hummingbird copy sounds better...
2. Godin Glissintar
Oh, man. I've wanted one of these for the longest time. The neck was AMAZING, and the sound was otherwordly. It just moved to the top of my "to buy" list.
After that section, I just had to move on to the electrics. Mind you, I was still in excruciating ear pain while doing all this, and was also fairly drugged up, so I don't recall EVERYTHING I did....at the GUITAR STORE!
3. PRS Tremonti SE
These had smaller bodies that I expected. They were light, and had nice finishes. Didn't plug it in.
4. Jackson RR3
First guitar I've ever got to play that had a bar in the Floyd. It was sweet, prolly my 3rd favorite neck of the day. I NEED a Floyded axe now. Not too keen on the size, would like a bigger version...
5. Jackson Soloist
Again, nice neck. Light.
At the point, I turned the corner from the middle aisle, and there, on the side wall, were the guitars I came to play. G & L's, beeotch.
6. G & L ASAT Classic
Best guitar I played all day. Awesome sound and playability. I now know, I'm a Tele man. Plugged into Crate BV120 tube amp.
7. G & L Legacy
Great Strat-ish thing. The sound of legends was contained within...
8. Ibanez semi-hollow
Very cool finish on this, they call it "Nebula Black", it's black with gold flecks in it. Sound was nice.
9. Gibson V
They only had 3 Gibby's, this and 2 Explorers. NO LP's. which pissed me off slightly. The only LP's they had were Ace Frehley Epi's, the blackburst and cherryburst. Anyway, back to the V. Very comfy shape and weight, I'm gonna have to spend more time with guits like this...
So, that was my day out. My bro gave me some cash to spend, so I bought some Schaller straplocks and GHS string for my Strat. On a related note, my Dad ordered me a SX 5-string fretless bass from Rondo for my birthday, it's getting here in a couple of days. I'll post a review on that after a while.
