  • Has anyone tried those new Carvins yet?

There was a post a little while back when they first came out (the set neck, arch top PRS-esque ones). I was just wondering if anyone got one yet.

I do not think anyone has recieved them yet. Most people on the Carvin board have due dates around the middle of July.

I've been waiting for Carvin to get a bit more upscale. I like what I see. Hopefully I like what I hear too, but I will see the consensus first.

I see these as a fairly priced PRS. I really like what I see and with Carvin's reputation around here I'd jump on them if I didn't have G.A.S for a V.

I spent some time with one of the new Carvin Archtops today at Carvin Hollywood. The store only had one in stock and it wasn't for sale. The salesman told me that customers are allowed to play the store sample but if they want to buy one, they have to be ordered and build time is currently 7-10 weeks. The one in the store had a mahogany body and set neck, gorgeous quilt maple top (not very thick, though), ebony fretboard, 22 frets, angled and sunken TOM bridge, locking Sperzels, vol/tone and three way switch. I liked the looks and solid feel of the guitar, but didn't fall in love with the tone, probably due to the stock pickups, which sounded a bit weak to me through the Legacy head and cab I played through. The salesman said that demand is very high and quantities are low. Out the door price: approximately $1,600 big ones.

I have not had the luck of trying an archtop yet but I do have a new DC 127 with a pointy head due on the 26th of this month. Yeah, I'm crapping myself waiting on it. My bud has started calling me "Carvin Boy" because I'm so into them now (I have 2 Carvins and am down to 1 Jackson).
