• Low Gibson Explorer prices

I was checking some ebay auctions and no Explorer goes over 500 USD (second hand).

What's the price of a new one? These are going really cheap, they're in good conditions and what's the most important, I like Explorer.

I also saw new USA Explorer for 850 EUR.

Can someone explain this to me?

Price of a new one? $950 - $1200 is a fair range.

I also like them but just once I wish Gibson would make one rear-routed, neck-thru, and without dots in the neck.

I dont know why they're half off on Ebay. Maybe because they're not in short supply?

i know that muscians friend was blowing out the gibson gothic explorers for $500 new last year. that might be why they are cheap on ebay.
buyers seem to shy away from 80's explorers for some reason, i don't know why.

Cause pointy guitars are very "out" right now.

there have been several variations of the explorer model, price depends on which one. i got my 1976 limited edition explorer from a buddy for $450.usd shipped from california (cheap because somebody installed a kahler) so after a few mods it has become one of my favorite gigging axes!

THey look like they are selling between 500 and 800 to me. I looked in the past auctions and what is current now. That seems to be a pretty fair price for guitars that sell for under a grand new IMO. Regardless, It is a Gibson so it is going to hold value over time...It will even increase over a long time. Gibsons and Fenders always do.

Looks like a Bigsby to me.76 was the first year they reissued the explorer in all mahogony.76s are the ones you want.Very cool but the Bigsby looks kind of out of place.

yeah i plugged the kahler route and stop tailpice holes got a gold bigsby off flea bay for $40.bucks,(why a bigsby? coz i like them and you don't see very many explorers with one.lol) replaced the tuners with klusons like the original 58's (had to buy two sets to get them inline plus had to gring the tuner bottoms to fit!) huge fat neck......it screams. i wouldn't sell it for nothing, it's a workhorse

Re: Low Gibson Explorer prices

A lot of buyers shy away from the 80s Explorers because most of them were of the rear-routed variety, which of course is not adherent to the traditional shitass design of a big ugly hunk o plastic on the front

Also, from what I've seen, the 80's Explorers had a fatter neck than the 76s, plus since all the big names used either genuine originals or 76s, everything else sucks

Funny about the prices for the Gibson Explorers...I've been monitoring 70's/early 80's era Ibanez Destroyers and they've been consistently going for over $550.

I want one of the new X-Plorer Pro models with its slightly smaller body (and it's rear-routed with the three knobs going in a different direction than normal on Explorers). I want the trans black version instead of amber, though.
