  • ESP/Ltd Lynch Kamikaze question

Anyone know if the Kamikazes have an R3 or R4 nut? I have Lynch's instructional video and it seems he is using the "classical-style" grip on the neck and he seems to get a lot of speed that way. My grip is more like a baseball bat grip. I have small hands and no way could I play an R4 nut guitar. Right now I'm playing Wolfgangs... Any info on the nutsize and any opinions or advice on grip welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

I recently played a little on a real ESP Kamikaze for the first time ever, and I have to say the current DK-2 necks are identical (kinda fat). That said, I do believe they come with an R3 nut (1 11/16" nut width).

As for CLassical vs Baseball grip - whatever works better for you, I've seen shredders use both methods.

      Re: ESP/Ltd Lynch Kamikaze question

I dug all these guitars out just to measure them for you!
Total Nut Width (outside edge to outside edge)
      Wolf USA Special = 1.625"
      LTD Kami I = 1.685"
      ESP M1 Tiger = 1.693"
ESP Kami II = 1.682" (Kahler nut)
      ESP Kami III = 1.643"
ESP Kami IV = 1.682" (Kahler nut)

Width across strings at nut (outside of big E to outside of little E):
      Wolf USA Special = 1.403"
      LTD Kami I = 1.477"
      ESP M1 Tiger = 1.466"
ESP Kami II = 1.454" (Kahler nut)
      ESP Kami III = 1.422"
ESP Kami IV = 1.473" (Kahler nut)

Thickness of neck at 3rd fret:
They are all pretty close to 0.800", with the LTD being about 0.785"

Width of fingerboard at 3rd fret:
      Wolf USA Special = 1.695"
      LTD Kami I = 1.852"
      ESP M1 Tiger = 1.847"
ESP Kami II = 1.834" (Kahler nut)
      ESP Kami III = 1.845"
ESP Kami IV = 1.845" (Kahler nut)

So.... The strings are about 0.50" more wide on the ESPs vs. the Wolfie, so this must be the R4 nut with the 'wide string spacing'. Also the fingerboards are about 1/8" wider on the ESPs, noticably wider than the nut (see pics below). In theory, you could put the R3 nut (narrow string spacing) on the ESPs, but you'd still have the wider fingerboard to deal with. Personally, I don't notice the difference too much.

      Wolfie nut:

      Hope this helps!
