• ESP Lovers, need some info please

For the guys that are the ESP buffs, could you tell me where a good site is to find out more about my ESP Horizon(the word Horizon is written in a "digital" font if that means anything)? I have a yellow/orange with black crackle with a reverse Jackson headstock. It's got a hum at the bridge and a single at the neck(I believe it's a hum also) with the ESP trem. It has the three controls V/V/T and the 3 way toggle switch like a les paul. Ebony board and it was made in Japan with the serial number on the back of the headstock. The locknut is mounted on top rather than through the neck and it has ESP labeled tuners. Fretboard and headstock is bound and the fretboard has no inlays and has oval side markers showing the fret locations.

    Anything else?

    Thanks much for any info...

      Dave,

Unfortunately, 80's/early 90's ESP info is limited. Did you just buy the one that as on Ebay?
(I almost pulled the trigger on that BIN)

You'll also find that the ass-clowns on the ESP board are zit-faced 15 year olds who have NO clue unless it's some sort of Metallica signature model

Just do a goggle search and hope for the best..
That's a cool guitar bro.. Let me know how you like it..

Thanks bro, no, it wasn't from ebay, it was in a music store in NY and Ray(manyaxes) had actually let us all know about it in your thread and I looked into and bought it. So far I love how it feels as it has a chunkier neck and I happen to like those.

Joe, I'll have pics as always but she needs a bath . I wanted to play her a little bit first but in the next few days I hope to have pics up for you guys.

        Thanks again,
        Dave

AFIAK the Jackson headstocks were "phased out" in 1989-1990... so if it has the newer (non Jackson) headstock it would be at least a 1990. I got that info when I spoke to Matt Masciandaro at ESP in regards to another custom I have- it has real 5 lb notes laminated to the body. It has a unique sound, and I don't know if it is due to the body being covered with actual money? He said not many were done with actual cash (approx 12-24?), most were painted.
I had a custom like yours - I miss it, It had the "chunkier" neck that felt more Jackson-like than most ESPs.
Should be a good player for you.... mine all hold up nicely, but they don't have as "beefy" of a feel as the Jacksons
          Nice score

Re: ESP Lovers, need some info please

Hey Dave. THis is what i can tell you. Yours is one of the last phases of the Jackson HS era. The really early ones 86-87 had no serial numbers at all. Then they started stamping the fretboards like Jackson. Next they started putting a stamp that said "Made In Japan" and then the last ones like that had the stamp and a serial number stamp on it as yours does. Hope that helps you out, Also The model labels originally started out with a Chancery style font and moved towards the more digital model labels (Horizon,Phoenix,Mirage....etc) like the example that you now own.

The PHOENIX MODELS that I own are Mahogany /Mahogany. The Horizon and Mirage/M1/M2 have Maple center nech-thru designs but I do not know the woods used fro the wings. Perhaps Alder... Maple... Poplar. I dont know for sure.

Note the design construction of the Neck is 5 Pieces of wood that go straight through the body. Butcher block style. It looks like the Kramer American series neck but it extends through the whole body this way. Get it?

If I think of anything else or you have a question let me know. If anyone can add to it please do because I am always looking for info.

I have heard that the early pickups were made by Dimarzio too but can't verify it.

DiabloM... yep that is what I meant - couldn't find it on my keyboard..
Seriously though - sweet player and sounds great - old EMG's in it... it has the NYC address on the plate ...

                    Cool score, Dave!!

There's a black, late '80s Eclipse with Jackson-style headstock, black hardware with TOM/stoptail in the local GC (the original Tele body, not the LP body Eclipse of today), but those assclowns want like $1400 or so for it!! Thanks so much for all the info guys, it is greatly appreciated!!!

Ok, I said the hell with cleaning it up for now so I could get you some pics. I really have grown to like this a lot. I hardly ever play anymore but I must say since this new arrival, I've played a little more than normal(considering I'm very busy lately )

Here are a few pics for you:

As you can see, it has some chips(no wood damage!!) and it needs a lot of cleaning and a fresh set up with strings. I really love the "no inlay" fretboard with the side dots which are ovals rather than dots. It had the original humbucking pickup in the case which was pretty cool and the case is in great condition as well. I'll get some "after pics of the guitar and the case next time.

Sweet!! With the crackle finish, it's hard to tell if there's any chips anyway.
