• Value of a used GMP?

I purchased this guitar on eBay about 2 weeks ago:

    GMP Flying V

I got the guitar yesterday and it is definitely not "Dead Mint". Small dings, pick scratches, both tips of wings have nicks, a scratch or finish crack on the neck joint and some fret wear. Probably 8.5 out of 10.

I emailed the seller to let him know that I wanted to return it and haven't back from him yet.

Here's the problem: I played the guitar last night to see if I wanted to get another GMP and the thing plays awesome. If I decided to keep it, how much would be fair to ask the seller to refund me to reflect the guitar's actual value?

I certainly wouldn't have payed $1350+ for a GMP in very good/excellent condition.

Fritz, since he listed it as "dead mint" and only played 5 or 6 times I feel he was being shady for sure. Dead mint is not a subjective description. You can't get fret wear by playing a guitar 5 or 6 times. He was certainly being less than truthful. Based on the fact he totally misrepresented the guitar I would send the guitar back for sure. This guitars value is certainly directly related to its condition. If you want to keep it I think you should ask for $300.00 back. Again.. if it was me, I would send it back in a heartbeat.

      JG,

I was very ticked off, initially. I wasn't going to quibble with the guy; I was just going to send it back no questions asked.

But I figured he may have the money already spent. So, I need to come up with an alternative plan, JIC.

BTW, he shipped it in a large box with one layer of bubble wrap taped to the case. It was bouncing around inside the box when I picked it up.

Man that is a pretty early on based on the serial number. I bought mine in late 2000/early 2001 and it was in the high 5s. Based on the number, I am thinking that has to be from 97/98.

I am not sure but that guitar may have been owned by Wes Borland at one point. He toured with one on his Big Dumb Ass project. You may want to check with GMP and see what they say.

The seller was really emphatic in his auction about no nicks or scratches. I would say try to get $300-$400.
