• Is this even close to original? 1960s SG

I have a line on a 'late 1960s' SG. I have a pic, it's been refinished and the pickguard is missing.
Without the Serial # all I can figure is that it's a Special (P-90s, Dot inlays) with the pickups replaced with hums and the pickguard removed with a flat or eggshell finish.
Is the bridge and pickup config (2xhum)correct for any 1960s SG with dot inlays? Or is this something else?

I didn't think a hummer would fit in a P90 route

Anyhoo, it's a '62 control layout, and definitely looks like a Special. Is that ebony or rosewood?
Anyhoo, it may have been a one-pickup wonder and someone added the second one (though I couldn't say which one was original). All the SGs I've ever seen had enough room for 3 humbuckers, including the P90d ones (though I'm no expert and could be mistooken)

Yeah, I had thought they routed out the P-90 holes for the 2 hums because I have never seen a real old SG with just dots except the 'specials' and all of those I saw had the one piece bridge (different than this one) and P-90s.
I have seen recent specials in this config, but nothing 60s-70s. That definitely doesn't mean they didn't make em and I don't have book or reference on them.

My thoughts -definitely a special (dots/one piece bridge) refinished with no PG, and the Final question - did specials come in 2 hum configs?

Thanks Newc!

Not sure about early-mid 60's Specials, but I do know the 70s Specials were just Standards with dots (mostly).
There were also the single-pickup Jrs and the Melody Makers, but I think those had the one bridge P90 (Townshend's Jr) and the MMs had the Slider switches (IIRC).

A special would have binding on the neck so this is probably a Jr. redone . I'd have to see the back plate to tell for sure. The only thing that looks original on this guitar is the body.

that guitar has been boogered beyond belief, extra pickup (neck in the wrong spot) vol tone toggle (in the wrong spot) refinned poorly,............hope ya got it dirt cheap.

Nahh,
Didn't pick it up, just a pretty good price for something advertised as a 1960s SG. I asked for pix, and even with my limited SG knowledge it didn't look right, not to mention the orange peely finish.
Thanks for all the info!
