Re: Les Paul Lawsuits

I have had a few Univox Les Paul bolt ons over the years. None were well made. One or two were even upgraded with all better parts and they were still doggy. Its all personal preferance though.

if you want a les paul shaped guitar thats affordable, sounds and plays well then you should try a brian moore i2. this thing is set neck, comes with premium hardware, has excellent craftsmanship and sounds awesome. it is a bit more trebly than a les paul, but it is way lighter and way more versatile.

Thanks. It really does play as nice as my Gibson LPC and it was only $225 of of ebay a few years ago. It has seen plenty of gigs and hasn't let me down. That one you are looking at looks OK if the price stays low enough.

This was a recent total steal at a local pawnshop:

It's a (rather dark) wine red tokai LP custom; I think the serial number dates it to 1983. It's mahogany with a mahogany cap, so it's a bit dark; but with the right EQing it sounds beautiful, I _really_ like the pups (some sort of tokai PAF replicas)

My Jackson JJP is a bolt-on mahogany neck, mahogany body. It's got amazing tone with its DiMarzio Super Distortion!

TJ, I have never played one of those, and I'll bet it is nice. But....it reminds me of one of those "little" guitars for kids.

get an orville, greco, or burny or ibanez. they have set neck ones.
or really, get a tokai love rock. they are the best ones.

Many other manufacturers made set-neck copies too. Yamaha, Aria Pro, Electra, Samick and Ibanez all made excellent "Les Pauls" at some time or another.

I don't agree that the Tokais are the best, not by a long shot. In fact, the new ones are made in Korea, and are nowhere near the build quality of the older Japanese made examples.

LOL That's what I thought, too, when I first got it. It's essentially a "Dinky" Les Paul... smaller and thinner body. It's got great tone, and it's almost as heavy as a real LP, too!

I'm pretty sure that is a Matsumoku made Aria. E-mail the seller and ask if he can tell you what it says on the neck plate.
