• Chandler Guitars ?

So I've been seeing alot of Jackson / Charvel look-a-like guitars from this company Chandler.

Alot of them I have seen look really cool, OFR, EMG's, the works. They also seem to be made in the USA.

Has anybody played one of these guitars? How to dthey stack next to the Charvel Model series?

Any info on them would be loved !

Re: Chandler Guitars ?

they were mainly a parts house, not unlike warmoth, back in the 80s early 90s. i've got 2 of their bodies, and i like them alot. the necks of theirs that i've had were a little on the meaty side. probably better than a model in that it's us made, if that matters. keep in mind tho, that most of them are just constructed parts guitars, which isn't a bad thing imo.

I tried 2 (a shop close to me has 2 nos for about usd 500)
they both had great big necks
they also had 1 replacement neck with the most perfect v shape I ever felt (birdseye with brazilian rw fingerboard)
unfortunately they were asking usd 400 for it and I waited 7 years for them to come down on the pricing, which they finally did when I wasn't around

I built a guitar around a bound Chandler ebony w/ dots neck and after a little sanding, the neck feels great. Good quality IMO too.

They make good quality parts. Same with late 80's JB Player parts. I have had several necks from both, and I like them alot.

I owned 2. They were great but I wish the necks weren't finished. Actually Chris guitars still has them both for VERY reasonable prices all loaded up with EMG's and real Floyds!

sully, on the whole you are right about them being a parts supplier but they also released some in shop custom models that can be spectacular. Lawsuit headstocks custom finishes and all. In the 90's they also had their own line of production guitars. I remember their tele model called the telepathic won a shootout in an old guitar player review. They also had an interesting take on a Rickenbacker solid body type axe. There is one of their guitars on ebay right now which is a production guitar and a copy of a custom model made especially for Kieth Richards. I forget the makers name but the Chandler which is production is actually quite rare and collectable.

cool info, yoga! i remember them when they used to be called "Paul C's"

chandler is still around, but they mainly do lap steel guitars, and stuff like that.

I believe most of their stuff has been import only for quite a while. Sully is right, if you check out ebay you will see auctions for their electra slide guitar all the time. You can still see the Paul C's logo from time to time. BTW their pointy necks are very well made.

I believe that Chandler model made for Keith Richards might have been called an "Austin Special"
When I lived in Austin, TX I saw a few of them.

I had a Chandler Baritone that I bought from Will Ray of the Hellecasters. It was phenomenal quality, but I never used it.
