Re: New GMW Headstock

I love the Standard Thin contour...feels very comparable to my old Charvel necks. They make them as thin as the Ibenhad wizard, but that's a little too thin for my tastes. They have a graphic of the shapes up on their site, take a look at it:

The standard carve is .800 - .880 which is very close to a Charvel. Plus, you can get a compound or straight radius. I didn't know they would do the straight end for an upcharge. I've heard varying critiques of their fret work, but I have stainless frets by them on a few necks and they were all perfect.

they don't do fretwork at all, so if they're pressed in really well, you may be okay. i'd always expect to at least do a partial level.

I've had to level all the necks I got from Warmoth at least partially, but they do come not so bad. You can just put them on, but if you want real low action, you have to do a little work. At least in my experience.

I just went to the GMW site, and wonder if they have recently shifted the photos in the rock replicas section to hide the headstocks. Damn. I should have just put a deposit down and ordered one last month. Why I wanted to wait until I could pay in full upfront is beyond me. Well, why I kick myself all weekend, I can curse corporate bullying and the man.

I spoke with Lee yesterday. Right now he has these guitars in stock I assume with stratheads:

Blueburst Jake
Ratt French
Orange Bengal Lynch
Green Bengal Lynch

As long as I can remember, the Rock Replica photos had didn't have the headstock showing.

They used to show the headstocks - it's not that long ago that the pics were shifted....

Thanks for the information. I might move some stuff around to cover placing an order Monday, but I could live with a different headstock. Hell, they might come up with something that looks better than a strathead.

If their New headstock is the same as on the Empire guitars, ick That is one fugly headstock. Jack.

Re: New GMW Headstock

They are working on a 3D headstock with 6 in-line tuners. I am waiting for Lee to send me the design for feedback. I am sure he will be contacting some other players that he is in contact with.
It will not be the Empire headstock...that is already patented for his Empire line and would not be the right style for rock replica type guitars.

Man, post pics as soon as you can, this is very interesting, I always figured Lee was licensed to do the Strat heads...this is gonna be a bummer..

I seriously doubt Lee wants the designs he sends to Monte to be posted.

Yea, I want to see it too but I guess onec he decides to go with the new shape, he will want to register it before showing off to public.
Not sure what it will be but hope it is not something too different from the strat head.
It could be something like older Tom Anderson.
OR maybe something like between tele and Strat headshape....

I don't know..

Well, I was kinda hoping that we could see the new design when it's allowed to be viewed by the public, and the sooner the better...if the GMW Strathead is no more, this is important stuff...I was in no way implying he should post pics that he wasn't meant to, I have no idea how far off the public unveiling is...
