Re: New GMW Headstock

Chuckracer - I spoke to Lee as well and from what I understand those guitars you mentioned are not complete instruments. He could put them together with a quick turnaround, but whether that would include a strat-head, who knows!.......

They used to show the headstocks - it's not that long ago that the pics were shifted....

I guess it depends on the definition of "not that long ago"

I've never seen the headstocks in the rock replicas pictures, and I saw GMW for the first time about the time I registered here.

They used to show the headshape.
They modified the photos like a year ago I think.

Re: New GMW Headstock

I guess GMW sells enough guitars that Fender sees them
as a threat. It sucks because even if Charvel stratheads
are available as custom orders they will probably not be able to give anywhere near the service of GMW.

Well, there you go. That's probably about the time I first went there.

I recall never seeing the headstocks because I wondered if they were stratheads and didn't find that out until seeing some of them here.

Ok then, if Lee can't do them anymore, besides Warmoth, who could you get a dead-on Charvel Strathead or Pointy (not that Warmoth's pointy is even CLOSE!) copy from these days? I mean with options ala Warmoth like nut widths (R5!), Fretboard woods, fretwire, etc? What's a mutt-builder to do?!?!

Charvel.

At the end, it all comes back to it.
We just need Charvel to do more Stratheads.
I see it would come.
Not just these limited editions.
I can imagine Strathead Charvel would be standard production models.
It all has to do with demands.
If people want it, they will do it.
Look what is happening with EVH Art series.
It started as limited edition, then it seems like it is going to be a production model.
So who know.

About GMW to have the strathead shape or not, I hope Lee can get the license to use the strathead like Warmoth.
That is the best thing to think instead of going for a new design.
He already has many clients who would simply ask for stratheads but I still wish him to come with his own design this time and him to sell his guitars with the logo of GMW without worrying of Fender.

Yeah, I'd like to see Charvel return to the FULL glory days when you could even order necks & bodies from them..that would be the shiznit, and I could die a happy man (after I built like 40 or 50 mutts, got a few standards and custom shops and whatnot ).....

Re: New GMW Headstock

Yea, what great about Fender owns Charvel is Fender seems to listen to thier buyers seriously.
I have seen Fender has been putting great guitars for both people who play serious and for fun.
Like Relic,Time Machine series for serious Fender lovers.
At the same time many low cost guitars to people who spend less but demand better quality.
Fender knows what people want from Charvel and they slowly letting us to have what we want.
Actually it has been like roller coaster ride.
It has been fast and coming down like snowballs from the mountain.
If people buy these limited editions and also ordering many pointies, what else for Charvel to bring after we get bored? STRATHEADS!

Yeah, I had actually emailed Lee a few months back inquiring about a pointy...at the time he could do it. Kinda sucks if he can't now. I also spoke with Warmoth recently and they said they have 'no plans' to redo the pointy shape exactly---even though they COULD now since they have the Fender licence to do all their headshapes...said there 'just wasn't enough demand'.... Re: New GMW Headstock

They will see.
When Charvel/Jackson started selling pointies in 80's, Warmoth copied it.
Now Charvel's return with pointy in full production, many companies will be watching what will happen.
I can imagine of more 80's metal looking guitars will be out there by 2005.
If GMW could come up with great headshape design, they can even beat Charvel since GMW offers cheaper price, fantastic customer relationship by Lee,and Dan paints them, so it's the same deal as Charvel.

Difference will be the resale value but who knows.

You could be right, maybe Warmoth will have a change of heart once they see the renewed interest in the pointies, they'd be dumbasses NOT to have an exact copy headstock available if they CAN do it anyway. And personally I could give a **** about resale value...

Warmoth is licensed, but they (or anyone else licensed) cannot offer fully assembled guitars with that headstock shape. So if Lee wanted a license, it would only be for replacement necks and not available on built guitars.

Re: New GMW Headstock

I was going to order a GMW strathead but have
been procrastinating.
But luckily I just bought a 21 fret maple GMW neck a few weeks ago. Was told that it came off of a hot rod flames guitar that GMW just built and the guy decided he wanted a wider neck.
I feel lucky I got it because it is awesome.
Hope GMW comes up with a cool headstock and continues
to do well.

Re: New GMW Headstock

I hope to Christ this doesn't affect Lee too much......I can't help but think that most of his business is building Charvel replicas, and if FMIC are listening to what people want, they might end up offering GMW type service for say 40% more. When you consider resale values and 'logo snobery' it may start to eat into GMW. I'd stick with Lee personally (if the headstock's cool!) as I rarely sell anything and I'm not really into the old-school Charvels that much.
