• Online Taylor Guitars dealers?

Anybody here know of any online dealers that deal Taylor Guitars, in the vein of Matt's Music Center, Easton Guitars, Vwall Guitars, and OnlineStageGear friendly cut-you-a-great-deal vendors that can get their hands on a wide range of inventory? Link me with websites so that I can drool! Thanks brothers.

Taylor doesn't allow dealers to sell online. They want the customer to come in and play the guitars. At least that's what I've always read.

I've played enough Taylors and I'm almost ready to buy though.

Oh well, that's a shame. Thanks anyways!

I would prefer to play them at store and decide which one to buy especially when you are about to buy expensive one like Taylor.
Acoustic guitars,They are so sensitive and one time I tried every acoustic guitar at GC like 50 of them and each sounds so differently.
My favorite was jumbo size body Taylor(I think it was 615) and one of Takamines(Santa fe series I think).

Has anyone tried their 30th Anniversary series with the shorter scale? I think there are like 4 versions with different types of wood. My bud's got a 25th Anniv. Model that is sweet!

You cant go wrong with a Taylor. I love my RSSM model. The quality is outstanding and the tone from the Koa is unmatched. Buy, Buy, Buy

Actually buying Taylors via mail order should be pretty reasonable. Taylor guitars are amazingly consistent. They are made with CNC machines and very high quality control standards. I've played multiples of several models side by side and couldn't tell the difference at all.

Here's how I went about buying my 614ce. Go to Guitar Center and play all the various models (most GCs have a good selection). Then go to http://www.taylorguitars.com/dealers/ and start calling dealers. I saved $700 + sales tax vs. the GC price this way.

Re: Online Taylor Guitars dealers?

I worked for a Taylor dealer... they won't allow (or wouldn't when I was in the loop) dealers to advertise on the internet. At all. I played around 50 different taylors over the course of 2 years, and the CNC doesn't mean squat on an acoustic guitar as far as the tone goes. There was a wide variance between models. I would NOT buy an acoustic guitar over the net, do it in person. You may save a few bucks, but you won't know what you're getting for sure tonally.

Funny thing, I had some $ saved up for a nice acoustic, and the best sounding Taylor acoustic they had was a lowly 410E model. It only listed for around $1399 or so when I got it, and it sounded great. Sold it when I got divorced back in 97 or so. I do have a good sounding Guild though. I think the matte finishes sound better than the gloss, but it's just my opinion.

I'm sure someone working for a Taylor dealer has played enough to notice variances of note but I played nearly a dozen each of the 514ce, 614ce, and 714ce (several side by side) before I bought just because of my concerns about what I was getting. They were super consistent. Quite frankly, I have never played a bad Taylor guitar.

I've known these guys for about 13 years and have bought many guitars from them, including two Taylors. They always have a wide selection of models and are super-knowledgeable about them. Unfortunately, Taylor's dealer agreement won't allow them to list their stock or prices, but give these guys a call or shoot them an e-mail and see what they can do for you. Also, they have a lot of experience shipping guitars so if you buy from them, they'll get the instrument to you safely and quickly.

One thing you have to consider is all the different wood types. I sat around for 3 hours one day playing all different kinds of Taylors and they all sound different. You may have an idea of what you want in wood type, but may be missing out on something that you may love even more.

I've played a few that have felt really different from others(high action, etc), so it's worth it to sit and play it for a while. It's a lot of money for one of those.
