Re: Tim Shaw humbuckers(Gibson)
These rock to say the least.I couldn't find much info on the L.P.forum like how to I.D. them properly.I know how to I.D. PAFs but these are new to me.The last two digits on the ink stamp on the bottom are 83 I assume that is year of manufacture. There are 8 digits.I have had other 83 L.P.s all have had Mo/Day and year stamped in ink but not this many digits. Its all so confusing.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Re: Tim Shaw humbuckers(Gibson)
I've got a 1983 30th Ann. Goldtop with the Shaw pups. This is what I found out when I researched it a year ago after getting my guitar. They all had a seperate inked in number on the base plate in addition to the stamped patent number. The first three digits will tell you the type. 137 is a neck pickup and 138 is a bridge pickup. There is a date code after the fist three digits. 1381082 would be a Shaw bridge made in October 1982. Some people say they had black or silver paf stickers, but I don't think thats always true because mine just had the ink # and stamp. Some other feature they had are the PAF coilforms with the square/round inspection holes and no T on top. The wire is a bright copper color usually. The magnet was a special Alnico V that was longer like the 50's style and rough cast. This is a special magnet and the closest to a vintage PAF in tone in my opinion. They had white plastic spacers and braided connecting wire. Hope this helps. They are killer sounding pickups. I bought another set to put in my 89 Paul and they sound soooo good in that as well.
They typicaly read under 8Kohms and seem to average out in the middle 7's. They sound very big and powerful in spite of the low readings.
