• Early BC Rich experts.....

I've got a lead on a 1976 BC Rich Eagle. It's supposed to be all original with full electronics and in amazing condition. Take a look at the pics.

I really don't know much about Rich's...but I've always been a fan of them. Can you critique the pics for me as far as originality etc. I'm gonna ask him for the serial # as well as pics of the headstock and get a full run down on the condition. What is a piece like this worth these days? He wants to do a possible trade deal, so if I end up not digging it I don't want to be stuck with it and would like to get what my trade is worth.

Thanks guys

It's not my favorite Rich, but I've been wanting an early one for a while now. The serial is 80164. Supposedly it's got one tiny chip on the back of the headstock and that's it. Any info???

Hey Joel you should go to the Moser custom shop forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable BC Rich guys there. Even the man that probably had a hand in making that guitar.

Joel,
Looks like a nice clean original. Looks all original too. DiMarzios are stock, all hardware looks correct. Get the serial, and that will tell you exactly when it's from.
And Neal Moser didn't design the Eagle...that was Bernie Rico's follow up design to the Seagull.

I never said he designed it Ken. I said had a hand in making/building it. Neal did a lot of the electronics in the old Rich guitars. He designed the Bich and the Virgin.

Great idea guys....thanks for the link Chris. The serial is 80164...he says it's a '76 but it sounds more like a later model...maybe '78 or so?

Re: Early BC Rich experts.....

LMAO....its for sale by Paul he in Upstate NY, he wanted to trade for my 78 mockingbird, thats silly. its a 79 & looks all original. its an all mahogany, which is sort of rare. The Koa & Maple ones have stringers Mahogany doesnt. Also the older ones have big sometimes HUGE necks, get the specs if thats a concern. most were 1 11/16" nut or bigger, with a big round profile. if hes claiming its original get pics of the control route & truss rod bolt. i never got that far since its wasnt a good trade. if you want PM or email me, im not going to talk about PRICE on the board. [email protected]
BTW if it was a 76 i would have bought it already.

That wasn't directed at you ...that was actually just following what you had mentioned. Didn't mean to sound correcting. Yes Neal DID design the electronics (along with Larry DiMarzio). Neal also designed the Mockingbird (the latter version...which was derived from the original shorthorn that Bernie designed), the Wave, and the Warlock.

hey any news yet Joel? LMK , ide like a full report if ou wind up getting it.

& as far as I know the Mockingbird was designed by johnny gogo a friend of Bernie & Neals, the Wave was designed by Marty Evans an employee, & the active electronics were in use before BCRich dealt with Dimarzio.

Jamie,
That is correct about the Mockingbird (being there were there different versions of it, designed by 3 different people)...I had some history mixed up. And about the Wave too...that was just hearsay. BUT...the full electronics were designed by Neal and Larry DiMarzio in 1976 (Had nothing to do with Bernie using DiMarzios as standard equipment...and Bernie had consulted with Larry DiMarzio about electronics long before using his stuff in his guitars) I got this info straight from Bernie Jr.
