yep, I think those are walnut. (also have a reputation for having very low frets). I haven't heard a lot of good things about them, but I've never played one. The Rio Grande Bastard + Iommi pup sounds cool though; I have a bastard in the neck of my gibson V and it sounds awesome (I looooove p-90s) and I've heard good things about the iommi pups too.

hmmm...not sure about this one brutha. I remember those "The SGs" - they sat around for ever at all the stores where I lived at the time. Cool pickups though. Me, I'd do the faded SG and upgraded the pickups. I have two friends that did exactly that in the last two weeks and they are thrilled with them.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I would go for the Faded, but i really want something that feels used... new guitars don't appeal to me for some reason. You guys think these are Gibsons hide it under the carpet guitars or something?

It's a little high for a 'the SG'. I used to play one of 'the Pauls' as a backup which was done in camo with spraypaint by the leadsinger during a whim one night. With the upgrades dome to this deal (case/pickups) it's been priced higher as the guitar itself is worth about 350.00-400.00 by iteself and maybe with a lesser case.
They were designed as an affordable econo SG model before epiphone started doing that end of things. He's right, nobody wanted them and you had to play about 10 of them before you found one that felt like it was a player/keeper. On the whole, not bad players one they're broke in but I'd still hold out for a early 70's STD deluxe for about 650-700 or an import.

Those guitars didn't go over well when they came out. I would also go for the Faded SG or a different used Gibson than that one, but if you like it, that's what counts. If I were going to buy an "economy" Gibson, I think I'd like one of the All-American Series SGs.Ron is the MAN!!!!

I've really loved the "The Pauls" I've tried out over the years--I've not as familiar with "The SG". But way better, in my opinion, than the fadeds. The late '70s-early '80s Gibsons have some mojo for the right player.
As far as prices, I wouldn't pay more than $400, since that's about what I've seen The Pauls going for.

That one is a Firebrand. I had a "The SG" back when they first came out. I think it was 1979. It was $300 brand new. Cool guitar for $300, but not $650.Scott
