• Peavey V-type

My nephew was here for a five day weekend, he has a Peavey V-type. We took it to have a new pickup put in it. (He lives in B.F.E.) When he got it back the next day we traded guitars pretty much and I would practice on it after he was asleep. That is the easiest guitar to play I've ever seen. The only thing wrong was the pickups. I just had to get one.
It will be here tomorrow or 8/4/04. I'm going to put a Full Shred at the bridge. Any suggestions for the neck pup. Model, coil split, etc. The stock pups suck .

Thanks in advance,

Which V-Type did you get? According to last year's Peavey catalog the EXP V-Type with USA trem has a single at the neck where all the others have H/H configurations. For a humbucker I would suggest a Jazz or 59 for some versatility and great cleans. If you want some great shred tone I've heard great things about the Distortion neck models. In fact I'm throwing a pair of Distortions in my 750xl here pretty soon. If it has the single coil route, I personally love the Duncan Rails pickups. Hot Rails for shredding lead tone, Cool Rails for hard rock/bluesy licks or a Vintage Rails for some nice strat type cleans and quack.

I slightly modified mine with some extra inlays and changed the pups to a gibson 57 in the bridge and a sd 59 in the neck, I'm not yet sure whether the neck pup will stay because for this position on a 24 fret short scale guitar I need a pup which is a bit more focused

**** YES! OH YEAH! V-TYPES ARE THE SH!T!

I own one, and for a cheap guitar they are the easiest things to play on the market. I threw in a Tonni Iommi picup in mine, and it plays beautifully. I put it through a dual rectifier once, and it **** screamed! The Iommi pickup is awesome, I've got it in the bridge position. It actually has more bass than the neck pickup, and sounds very clear. It also picks up the pinch harmonics very well, and is very consistent. When you bend the note, you hear the full bend and not the note fading out when you bend it.

As for a pickup suggestion, it really depends on your style. It sounds as if you've already got the bridge figured out. I really don't use any other pickups other than a bridge humbucker. I'm not even going to worry about the neck one yet, I just don't ever use it. I've experimented in the past, and it just doens't work for me. Even on the clean channels I like my tone to be out there. I'll probably change my mind within the next recording though.

But yes, I must say congratufuckinglations! This is a very nice guitar, it is the best in my setup (not that it has much to compete with! mutters:samick, aria, slammer, all **** guitars but they were my first ones so I can't throw them out.)

I used to have a Peavey Vandenberg, which the V-Type is based off, and it actually eas a really good guitar.
