  • Can't find a nice Charvel, so...

Okay, I need a second guitar. I couldn't talk my "friend" into selling me the Model 2 being baked into oblivion in his garage because he might play it again (when the next Ice Age starts, maybe), so I started looking around my city. No great Charvels.

I've played two decent instruments, though: A used Lado II that was great, but needs a recrowning job. Beautiful aged pearl white finish, but with lots of dings in it. $500

The other was a new Brawley Threat with a magnificent flamed top and a silky sweet neck and fretboard. Downside was that it has a non-locking tremolo...a high-quality one, but still no Floyd. $329.

I'm wondering how much trauma I'll put the guitar through and how much I'll have to shell out for a good tech to put a Floyd in this thing. And if the Lado, though more battle-scarred, is the better quality guitar.

They both play terrific and sound good. The Brawley could probably benefet from a Duncan Distortion.

    Thanks for any advice!

Wait, I think there are so many guitars out there with Floyd type bridge with decent pickups for less than $400.
Even a Model 2 I have seen are like $250-350.
You put a Duncan Distortion in it and there you go.
Check E-bay and some Guitarshop website like chrisguitars.com,
You will find very good deal.
Even Classifieds section on this board, I usually see very nice Import Charvel for low price too.
    Good luck!

Ive owned about 10 Lados, including a Lado II. The Lado II was an elcheapo compared to the other Lados. When I traded it in on a Gibson LP, I got $165CDN for it. The store sold it for $275CDN, and it took awhile. Lados are great guitars, but used Lados can be found for quite cheap. Of course, the Lado will be a way better quality guitar than the Brawley, but you may be able to walk in there 3 years from now, and they will be begging you to take the guitar from them...........$500 will easily get you a sweat Lado Classic neckthru with all the fixins on Ebay.......

I'm in Scottsdale. So far, I've seen a few FrankenCharvels, a pair of Model 4s (both a little pricey) and some beat to hell Charvels.

I'm not really high on buying another Model 4. If I toast the active circuit board, it's $$$ to replace them with the alternative being replacing all the pickups. If you know of anybody who has a reasonable Model 2, let me know!

          Thanks!

Thanks for the info on the Lado II! So far, the only Lados I've seen on eBay have been pretty pricey. Nice looking, though.

There's a Pawn Shop on Apache Blvd in AJ with a white Model 2 last time I checked. It was in nice shape with a very good pricetag. I don't remember the name...big place on the south side of the trail.
There are Charvels around the Greater Phoenix area...you just need to dig a little.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out! A white Model 2 in good shape would be my top choice. I'll head out there. If you might remember the cross street, that would be great.
