It took some doing to get them to do it. I actually started a bunch of threads on the Carvin bb about the old headstock as well as the V and X guitars. A lot of other people on the board we asking for it too so Sean (a Carvin rep) told us to put our money where our mouth is. I'm not sure how many ordered the guitar but I hope it is enough to bring it back as at least a hidden option.

As a funny side note, many of the people over there who were begging for the pointy started crying about the cost of a new guitar when Sean offered it. I hate when people just talk and have nothing to back it up.

As for the headstock, it escaped me what I payed for that option but a check of my invoice said it was $100 and added an extra 2 weeks to the build. It's worth it though since their machines are not set up for that profile.

Sweet man!! I was going to get one of those, but the window for ordering one was too short and thus, no money. I want a DC125 with that headstock, and I also hope they offer this later as a hidden charge. Congrats-Jack.

I like that head stock. I also liked the head stock that was more "Jackson" like. I believe it was the one they used right before this design came out. I'm sure they won't do that one any more because it was to similar to Jackson. I had an all black DC-127 that was black with an ebony, no inlay board. If it had this head stock, I'd probably still have it.

Yeah, that Jackson-esque head was just before the version on my pointy.

I would love to get ahold of some of those older Carvins, pointy or not because they have recently changed the neck profile to something a little beefier so I thought it would be cool to have more of the old one.

NICE. I like the fact they still offer koa....mmm. & are neck profile options available or does carvin make a standard profile on all there guitars?

Actually, you can't get Koa from Carvin at the moment, I believe, as their supply has dwindled.

They don't offer neck profile options--which sucks, since I prefer the profile they used on the late '80s-early '90s guitars. Very Jackson-like, actually, but just slightly thinner.

It will be interesting to see if the pointy-head makes a return as an option. After all, you can get the 3x3 or 'arrow' headstocks still as options, why not the pointy? I can't imagine it would take them that long to put the programming into their cnc machines to make that a regular option. Carvin has really gone away from the metal market in the last few years--their more recent designs and updates seem targeted at more traditional players. I guess that's where the market is now... I believe it's on a limited basis and you have to call to see of its availability.

Very Nice [img]/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img] I own a original pointy .It is a 1991 DC145 and it the strat body.I really wish they would offer that body style as a option again.As far the neck profile it the thinnest Carvin I have played.I also own a 03 DC150 and 03 Bolt+ and the necks are fatter and more C shaped.But my favorite Carvin neck is on the 93 DC127 it very close in feel and profile to my SL1

Given that Carvin only used the Jackson headstock for about a year and a half (1988-mid '89), I'm surprised how many do turn up on eBay. I had one for awhile, an '89 DC145 that was a very nice-playing guitar. Ultimately, the all-maple construction was way too bright-sounding for my needs, even with a bassier-sounding pickup. That brightness is still present in newer Carvins, and is the main reason I tend to stay away from them now.

Something about those old Jackson-style Carvin headstocks doesn't look right. Seems like they're too thin and anemic looking.

Way to keep at them and get what you want. For a company that bills itself as a custom shop, you'd think it wouldn't be like pulling teeth to get a headstock that they used to offer anyways. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Congrats on the ax and good luck with your sweep picking.
