Well, I think you'll basically have the cat by the balls because there's NOTHING like these available now....how bout' ferrules, saddles, 17mm strap buttons, string retainers, input jack plates?

Also - I know brass can be plated, but can it be powdercoated??? one of these in black would be bad ass...

kev's made some string trees and ferrules, so i'm sure a lot of that is very possible.

not sure about the powdercoating, he'd know better than i would.

I didn't think they would be ready this soon.
Now I may have to re-think one of my projects that's in the works.

                > Coming from a machine shop student, and knowing the work that is required to make something like that and still make it look nice,as well as accurate fitting THE FORCE IS UNUSUALLY STRONG WITH YOU! I'd be interested in seeing your blueprints, and reading your procedure, not to bite off your business, but as a student of the craft. I seriously considered trying to make my own Floyd baseplate, but with a couple mods. First,it would be as thick as the Schaller appears to be from the side, more mass equals more sustain. It would also have a longer side tab at the top where the name is stamped,to make it symmetrical like the Schaller, which my only minor complaint about a glorious piece of machining and pure function itself. The only thing that stopped me was the lack of confidence in the mills and such I have access to,as well as lack of funds to order the tooling I'd need. Guess I'll have to settle for the screwless vise I am making, along with any number of requests for custom Dugout replacement bats,LOL. Tommy D.

Re: Mayday Manufacturing / Sully Hardtails !!!!

Hey Guy's I'm back .. this was a great thread to come home to. Sully called me in Vegas to let me know how elated Steve was over his plates and that ouldn't make me any happier.

                  To answer a few questions

V-trems- Yes it will probably be something in the works after we get rolling with saddles. I have a pet peeve with todays guitar parts being plain stamped plates as oppossed to solid brass. While machined brass is more expensive it does add mass to the guitar and I'm a firm beleiver in doing things right .. I've already made brass blocks for the trems so it would just be a matter of incorporating the block into the hardtail design as dimarzio had done yrs ago ..

Saddles- Hopefully soon.. The plates were the stepping stone so we need to get some saddles to have a complete set ..

Powder Coating- I don't see any reason it can't be done. It may however change the dynamics as the coating is pretty hard. It might make the guitar sound a little brighter ...

Tommy- These plates were Reverse engineered (by me) in cad/cam and then CNC'ed. All the surfaces are done totally by HAND. they are rubbed to get them flat and clean and then bead blasted and the polished surfaces are last. I taped off the bead blasted areas and polished the rest .. if you have any other questions please feel free to email of pm me ..

** Update** I just got off the phone with Steve and it was great to talk with him .. He is a super nice guy and I'm glad he was happy with the pahts. I certainly feels great to help someone out ...

I think you'd have some buyers if you thought about making solid brass sustain blocks for Floyds and licenced Floyds. Instant quick upgrade and sounds very worth it to me!

Just a curious question... what's with the "paaaahhhhhts" and "haaaahhhhhdtails"?

Hey Kev, that hardtail looks killer! What is the string spacing? I have a Gotoh bridge which is 2 1/16"m which is perfect (not brass though) for my Dimarzio hardtail strat. Anything wider and the frets would be to close to the edge of the frets. Thanks Jason

The early Dimarzio hardtails trumped the fact that they were in fact narrower, and made for better alignment...thing is - on most they set them up so you could also string through the back instead of through the body, and the saddles are huge / very tall, and the string still passes through about half way through the saddle - leaving no way at all to dampen strings with the palm...make sense? I've got a couple of those - and that is the prime reason I did this with M/M because he's got them so streamlined and ergonomic...Sully said the one he's got in use is really comfy to play with and I don't doubt it. Again - these things are beautiful, just check the pics.

As far as Floyd blocks - I think that's a great idea, I don't know how much strings actually passing through a block vs. simply adding mass will change the tone - but based on what Kevins done so far I'll bolt on anything he builds and the brass has got to kick the crap out of potted metal. Build em' up Kevin!
