    '83? weren't the XR-3s (well, the coil tapped non bound, dot-inlayed LP) the first incarnation of what we call Studios? I know the great Steve Clark of Leppard had one.

      i heard 1983 was the 1st year of studios. the thing on it read

      83113

      wich means it was built in 1983 on the 311th day?

      and when i looked at the gibson website i believe it was under les paul studios.

      whatever, the guitar is awesome and plays so well.

      edit:

      this guitar is a hell of a lot lighter then my Greco Les Paul. pretty crazy.

        Thats a negatory. General rule of thumb is "Classic" and above on LPs, Standard and above on SGs. Basically anything with a "Studio" or "Special" in the title is relegated to the brown bag department.
