• How do the import BC Riches rank?

Curious about the import BC Rich models. Which series are better... Bronze, NJ or Platinum?

Saw a guy at NAMM (Robert Marcello of Danger Danger) shredding on a Platinum Mockingbird (older Neon Orange model), which are reputed to be crap

My ex-singer had a Platinum Warlock that wasn't too bad (trem sucked but worked)

I'd say NJ and Platinum are better than the Bronze, anyway.

Forget the Bronze. NJ or Platinum would be better. Or get a used USA model. I haven't played the imports for any meaningful length of time but I picked some up in the store and they didn't feel too bad.

Or check out some of the 80s NJ models. Some even had active electronics I think.

I've had 3 early 80's NJ Biches, and they were all pretty decent guitars. They have somewhat narrow necks though, so if you're into the Ibanez type necks, the older NJs won't be your cup of tea.

I just worked on a new NJ Warlock, and it was a really nice playing guitar, but the pickups could use some help.

A guy I used to hang out with had a US made BC RIch (St-3?) and it was a great playing guitar-it had a pair of DUncans in it that sounded very good too. One of our other friends had an Import, platinum I believe, and it was a piece of crap. He had bought it, and a few days later it just stopped working. I replaced his input jack and did a setup, and Voila! it worked, but the tone and playability just wasn't great. It had an FR II on it and wouldn't stay in tune.

Bronze is crap , Platinums are pretty good , NJ's are nice and then the pinnacle of BCR's are the USA handmades. Ive got a platinum virgin and i like the feel of it and everything , but to get it sounding and acting like i wanted i had to get new parts for it. Nothing is stock except the neck and body itself. I got a bronze for $60 buck. Its really heavy and i had to put my stock virgin pickups in it to make it sound halfway decent. The hardeware on them kinda sucks. My NJ on the other hand was fine stock , although i did change the pickups because i wanted to use a X2N / Super 2 combination.

Bronze is the bottom of the barrel. Platinum are much better, and NJ are the top of the line Japanese models from what I understand.

BC Rich Bronze guitars are a joke. I had a kid come in who wanted a Warlock, I had to go thru 3 of them til I found one that was playable enough for me to sell him. I am not really fond of any of their guitars. I wish we would drop them and pick up Hamer or Dean instead.

I've got the X2N/Super 2 combo sitting around and really need another guitar to put them in. Those pups rule, so I'll put them in something else eventually. I had the X2N in my old plywood Kramer 600ST for many years and loved it. I then put it in my poplar Charvel Model 5A and thought it was too bright. Then when it went into the alder Warrior MG and I bought the Super 2 to compliment it and thought it was amazing. I parted out the guitar and sold it and only now have the pickups.

Right now I really like the looks of the new Platimum Virgo and am seriously thinking about picking one of them up, but it's H/S so I'll probably get a Fast Track 1 or Chopper for it if I decide to throw the X2N in. I've got GAS bad!

If you can find an older NJ with 3 on 3 headstock they are very good. up there with mod5/6 charvels in quality. & they wont have Lic floyds, mostly stoptails. the hardware & wood quality was also alot better than the newer ones.

Not necessarily just the 3+3 headstocks Jamie. The 6 in-line HSs are pretty rare, and are just the same with the exception of the HS. Of course some don't like the shape of it, but it's just a matter of esthetics.

I don't care for any of the BC Imports personally.
The only good ones were the early-mid 80's neckthru NJ's IMO
I don't even like the newer neckthru NJ's

Try and find a US series neckthru if ya wanna go the cheaper route.

The NJ series is pretty decent, but sometimes you can score a really killer deal on a good 80's USA. Those are awesome. They have sort of a Gibson-esque feel to them. I want a white 1980's USA Mockingbird with a fixed bridge. I played one once that just looked and felt better than any other BC Rich I've ever played. I had a 1990's NJ neck-through that was alright. It had a crappy set-up, but I sold it well before I got into guitar repair, so it may well have been salvageable.
