Those were made in the late 80's It was a version of the Lp studio. They are pretty rare but not all that desired either. Cool Grab! How do the pickups onm those sound. They also made a version with the Steinberger bridge I think. Sweet deal for that price. i saw one sell on ebay for a few hundred more about a year ago.

Every Studio I have seen has 4 knobs, bar inlays, and a switch label. The body weight and thickness is very much like a Studio Lite, though.

I like the sound of the pickups A LOT. They are very bluesy, kind of muted. Definitely not high powered. I had to turn up my amp more than usual. But as soon as I plugged it into my Marshall it evoked that classical British blues tone.

I have made many incredible scores but this could possibly be the greatest.

Early LP Studios did have dot inlays instead of trapezoids, but they still had the 4-knob controls and the switch in the same place as a Standard.

Yeah. Early studios had a dot inlay. Did you get the serial #? This was an oddball version they did. Very cool indeed. I have only seen them in black so I wonder if that was the only color they came in. I can't rembember the name but it might have been a lite series but not like the ones that were most popular. Every now and then one shows on ebay. Neat pickups. Very intersting layout. Like I said before. Awesome grab. Congrats!

          Re: Garage Sale Les Paul

OK, the serial number is 80208533. So it was made Jan 20, 88 in Nashville.

So it is a late 80s model.

are those some kind of emg's in there? If so, it was probably part of the Showcase editions that were released in 88...a limited number of guitars released each month...one month and sg, one month a les paul and so on....but all of those have a showcase edition decal where the back of the headstock meets the neck.

                  Re: Garage Sale Les Paul

Those are not EMGS, and the guitar is from mid to late '80s. That series was not that good and as was mentioned above are not all that desireable.

But for $150 it is a steal and I wouldn't feel a bit guilty taking a router to the bridge position for a humbucker mod.

That was my first thought when I got it. But after playing it, I really like these pickups and I'm staying with them.

Besides, I already have a Les Paul Custom with normal humbuckers.

Cool Guitar! Man,I got a story similar to yours, and scored by far the best deal I ever got on anything. About 20 years ago,my dad called me at work and said that a friend of my grandmothers had a guitar that she had bought for her grandson but he never took any interest in it,and she wanted to sell it.She knew that I played some, and thought I might want it.My dad and I went by after work and the old lady was setting up her yard for a garage sale the next morning. She had already had some customers, and I figured that I was SOL.I asked about the guitar and she said that she had left it in the house so we could look at it.Walked in the house, guitar is on the couch.Brown Les Paul case.I thought,Yeah,Right.Opened the case, room started to spin.Picked it up,thought I was gonna cry! 63 Les Paul Goldtop! Immaculate, with hangtags and all the trimmings!I asked her what she had to have for it and then braced for the worst.Cause I dont have this kind of luck! She thought for a miniute and said " Is two hundred dollars okay"? I about peed my pants, paid the lady and hauled ass!My dad still jacks with me to this day about how I stole that guitar.I still have it and will give it to my son one day. Sorry so long winded, but I had to tell that story! Thanks The Good Reverend
