    Re: Whats up with Gibson?

Let's see...... they ban internet advertising and "point and click" sales yet it's OK to email pics and sell guitars via email and telephone???? Yeah! that really provides the "personal" experience.

It's all a bunch of BS and like Jim Shine said, Musicians Friend will get away with "point and click sales" all they want since they are Gibson's #1 dealer.

This kind of thing isn't restricted to Gibson either. Jackson had a policy of requiring it's dealers to have an actual storefront yet their supposed #1 Dealer(at least he claimed to be for 3 yrs straight) was/is selling Jacksons out of his garage with no store. Did Jackson do anything about it?????? Nope.

      Re: Whats up with Gibson?

I am not sure if this was already discussed, but isn't Guitar Center and Musicians Friend the same? Also, I was under the impression that Sam Ash had something to do with that company now? Maybe not. I think Sam Ash bought out Manny's but I am not sure if it is part of the GC chain. Gibson is in bed with MF and GC, because they are the largest dealers of Gibsons. Many large companies require that a large inventory be kept by their dealers. Taylor's is approx $150k of inventory. I am not sure what Gibson's is. This cripples many small stores, which is why they have a hard time being authorized dealers. This leaves GC and MF which have the resources. Gibson could give a **** about small fry customers. Their lower lines will always sell as will the high end. They sell out pretty much all of their high end. Even all of the $25k Jimmy Page types guitars. The #1 Page went for $55k I think. As much as this sucks, this is pretty much good business for Gibson. They have the name, legacy, artists and quality. Same with Fender going after builders that use their headstocks and body shapes...it sucks for us but it is good business for them.
