  • Best Playing Les Paul?

I am kinda going thru a LP phase and am curious: What model Les Paul is the best you have played and why?

    Re: Best Playing Les Paul?

I like the thinner LP necks. The best LP I ever played was a 1982 LP Custom. It is actually stamped as a second too. It was offered to me yesterday but the seller changed his mind today.

        Fritz,
I own quite a few Pauls, from classics to a 68 re-issue FT. IMHO, my Bullion Gold Classic takes the cake. I like the Classic's neck.

          Re: Best Playing Les Paul?

Best Les Paul I played was Historic 58 from late 90's.
Fat neck and huge sound even without amp.
While most of Les PAul have Mahobgany necks and I prefer of Maple neck.
So my choice is very limited.

Didn't you have a Zakk Les Paul?
I love that guitar and wish I had money..

I have Standards, Classics, Customs, Historics, and Supremes. They all have differences and for me to say which one is better (for whatever reason) would be purely subjective. I suggest finding a store that sells several models and make the decision based on your eyes, ears, and hands. Good Luck! Nothing beats a great Paul!

I'd say the cream 1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom I had until 1988..The guy I sold it to never plays it but will not re-sell it to me...Just sits in it's case.Sad...Cort

Personally, I prefer Historics. I've got an R8, and an R7, and I've got friends with an R8 and an R0, and I love the damn things, they kick ass.

I had an early 80s LPC that had a maple neck and fretboard. It was an awesome player but the neck was finished. So instead of just having the finished removed, I sold it (for way less than I could have gotten) and bought the Zakk.

The Zakk is advertised to have a raw neck, but mine is not and I really don't care for it as a player that much. I am still kicking myself for selling that Maple boarded LPC.

How does the Zakk Les Paul play and weight, is it heavy?

My LPC is the best LP I have played.
