I know I could have these questions answered by Lee himself but he's a busy man. After a bad experience with a Jackson custom shop I'm going to have GMW build my " dream guitar ". Does anyone know what the new GMW headstock looks like ? How about the GMW logo ? I know theres no more strat heads, has Fender forbid them to make pointy Jackson heads ? I know there is no " average " build time, but can someone speculate on build time for a very simple 1H dinky ?

Re: More questions about GMW
Yeah, I can relate to that. I do the same thing. The beauty of emails though is that Lee can get back to you when it's best for him. That way you don't have to feel like a pest.
I just think if you're serious, and I'm sure you are, then it would be better to get the answers from the source, and not from us speculating.

Re: More questions about GMW
Lee will answer your questions. We spent the morning exchanging about 15 emails.
The new headstock will be very pleasing. The guitar bodies, graphics, hardware and so on will remain the same as before. The only change will be the headstock. The neck profiles are still as before.
The logos look cool too. Also, there will be engraved neck plates and the new guitars will be serialized.
Hope this helps a bit..

Re: More questions about GMW
I will add this. THe real wait time for a GMW is graphic dependant. A simple 1 hum takes Lee less than a week to assemble from what he has on hand unless you ask for custom specs (like a change in neck conture or flamed/birds eye maple for the neck etc).
The thing that takes time is if you want Dan Laurance to do a graphic. At last count, figure at least 6 mos. or more (Jackson/Charvel still farm out graphics to Dan - even simplier ones if you ask them to (which I did recently) so Dan's time is gets booked fast many months in advance. I have a GMW on order which has been waiting for paint since last May.
I would expect that if you want a solid color that anyone can shoot, the wait time will be consideralble shorter."I''ll say what I'm gonna say, cuz I'm going to Hell anyway!"

Re: More questions about GMW
Lee's easy to deal with and usually gets back to your email questions pdq. I also don't pester him with questions. I have an order in and its going on about 3 months now and I just ask him for an update every 3 or 4 weeks yeah paint is what takes the longest, not just graphics but the painting process. I'd rather get what I paid for, a killer guitar done right than try to speed up the process shawnlutz.com

Re: More questions about GMW
Don't forget that once a guitar is painted, it is kept in the drying from for about 6 weeks to harden properly. If that is not done, you can sink marks when you put the pickup rings and trem on.
yes...Dan is a big reason for dealys, but well worth it. Sometimes I have lucked out and a graphic was already painted by Dan and just needs to be buffed. That takes a week or two to get.
Also, the necks go out to Neal to be worked on. So that plays a role in the time line too.

Re: More questions about GMW
Bear in mind that Lee keeps a very limited stock of 'off the shelf' necks and bodies, so be prepared to wait. I waited 6 weeks for a Ratt Crossed swords of which the body and neck were in stock, but because I wanted the headstock logo'd, that took more time. I'm the most impatient guy in the world and even though I know GMW's stuff is great, I still struggle with some of the waiting times.....
Cheers
