  • Warmoth Idea...

I was thinking about this guitar for a while for the future. what would you think about a white 2 hum Telecaster Body made out of Mahogony with binding and Neck with a Tune-o-matic, stoptail piece with a short scale neck? It would be a mix between a Les Paul and tele.

At least it would look different from the stuff that you usually see from Warmoth...

    Great idea.
I am not so sure about how Short scale neck would play but check Warmoth website, you will see bunch of completed guitars as example.

A short scale neck will be just like a LP. I have a short scale strathead from warmoth on the way.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I built a real "short scale" Jaguar from Warmoth parts. The neck plays really fantastic and is one of my favorite guitars. You can get really nice bends on the strings.

What woods would you guys recommend for a tele shape guitar, and what for the neck and the fretboard.

          I want a thick sound.

what would you recomend for a RR/ V type.?

          Thanks.

Usually Ash would be a great choice for Tele.
Neck can be Maple and fingerboard can be Rosewood for warmer sound.
I had a Alder body Tele and it sounded very full.
If you want thick sound, Why not to go with Mahogany?
Or how about arch top to make the body thicker.

            I don't know Warmoth makes RR/V types.

Here's a pic of a Warmoth V2 body made from White Korina.

Here's a link showing the V2 in various forms.

Personally, I want to build one using this.

I had a mahogany Warmoth Star and tonally it kicked ass.

Yeah, I think Mahogany is the way to go if I ever build one. I just found the pic of the Swamp Ash Star in the "showcase". I've never had a guitar with an Ash body though.

                    Looks great!
I would still go with GMW or Jackson though..

Great idea for that tele man, it's gonna rule!

What would be cool is if Warmoth ever offereded an option for set necks. I know they make each body and neck custom so why not offer an option to glue them together? I would love a set-neck version of the Wolfgang.

You can glue them together and and call it as setneck.

                        just kidding.
                        They are basically parts shop.
Don't want to build complete guitars.
They do but I guess they don't want to be a custom build shop.

If you want to go with Wolfgang Set neck, go with GMW or visit Peavey website.
I have seen some cool customs.

Michael, if you are thinking of getting parts on E-bay or from warmoth and paint the body and build it by yourself, yea GMW is expensive but when you consider of buying a completed custom order guitar, GMW is pretty cheap.
Compare the price with ESP or Jackson.
The price you will get from GMW will be much cheaper.
