• GIbson Les Paul Custom pics!!

Well, I finished wiring her up. I potted all the pickups and I wired her to the exact specs of the Ace Freheley Les Paul Custom. I decided to use the .022 yellow Cornell Dublier caps for the tone pots which I believe are correct. Gibson used Cornell and Sprague caps. I took a pic of the control cavity. It is extremely neat and looks exactly like what a 1971 should look like. She plays like a dream, sounds like a monster and is as quiet as a mouse. Actually this guitar is so quiet you would think it has EMG's in it. Potting pickups is a friggin miracle!!
Treble- bridge pickup
Middle-bridge/middle pickups
Rhythm- neck pickup
The middle position sounds very similar to the clean tone in the beginning of Black Diamond by Kiss.
The pics suck because my camera sucks but you get the idea.

Is it the picture that the area of upper side of the body is very yellowed.

Nice man! I noticed the middle pu has teh SD logo on it, what model are you using there? Are the B and N Duncans too or did you leave em stock?

Sweet, nice one! I usually don't like pickup covers on LP's but I think this one would probably look good with gold pickup covers on all 3.

Answers to your questions:
The upper part is yellowed. It yellowed exactly like my bandmates 71.
The pickups are:
Bridge- Gibson 498T
Middle- Seymour Duncan Jazz
Neck- Gibson original PAF (it has the little black Patent Applied For sticker on it.
The guitar had gold covers on it when I got it but they looked like a$$ because they didn't fit perfectly.
I think I can barely make out a 6th digit in front of the serial # 11111. It looks like it could be a 5 or an 8 but I would need to remove the paint to be able to tell if it is actually a number and not just an indentation in the paint.

Re: GIbson Les Paul Custom pics!!

I think your camera and your picture composition are fine, but your hand is just a little shaky. It doesn't look like you're using a flash (big plus in my book ) which means the shutter opens for a longer exposure and it will capture more hand-shake unless you use a tripod or steady your forearms against something steady.

But otherwise, nice guitar!

Going by the chart that would make it 1973-1975.

The color is actually more even than the picture suggests.
It yellowed just like other 70's white Les Pauls I have seen.

I see.
How is the headstock(where the neck was repaired)?

Great Job! Gold or white p-up mounting rings would really look great. I don't believe I've ever seen a 3 pickup LP in white before. Really Cool!

The headstock is pretty rough. The headstock cracked exactly where they all break. It is right behind the volute. The binding on the bass side from the low E tuner to where the headstock meets the neck is GONE. The truss rod cover is missing but Newc found it and is sending it to me. I am going to replace the missing binding as soon as I can find some of it. I am also going to repaint the back of the neck and use a tint to match the body color as best as I can. It is a great playing and sounding guitar and certainly worth the effort.
