  • EVH Shark guitar

So I could have sworn in an interview EVH said he regretted cutting up the explorer guitar because as soon as he did it no longer had the same tone and sounded like shit. So why (I know why $$$$) are they selling this guitar? I mean if EVH himself said the tone sucked after doing all the cutting, why do a production model?

I know people wanted copies, but it's just funny to me that a guitar he stated wasn't very good after he did all that to it would at least do a disclaimer or something.

Personally I can't imagine it not sounding fine, maybe not against an A B comparison to the guitar pre-cut (I'm talking about the original guitar) but I'm a fan of offset V's and thing so. dunno.

Wasn't the original also Koa or something like that?

In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I believe, because he hacked up that Ibanez, he also ended up borrowing someone else's Destroyer for recording

Hey, people pay $ for 'pre-reliced' guitars. I rest my case...

I just have an issue paying $1800 CAD for a Korean built replica of a Japanese Explorer copy.

I had a chance to get to it in my local guitar shop yesterday. Here're my impressions:

I know it's quite personal but I think appearance wise they did a great job. Set neck, 3 gold and 3 chrome tuners, brass nut, gold switch plate (jack plate), good bridge and abandoned pot hole where is should be.

When I held it in my hands, I couldn't help but notice the neck felt kind of round and chunky. No big deal, but the back profile is not EVHish. That being said, the neck played very well. The next thing that caught my attention is the turnbuckles. They rattle, no matter how tight you turn them. Even bottomed out, they still rattle, so that's kind of a negative.

Plugged in though, the guitar is really heavy on the bass side. It's not bright or articulate. It may be up some people's alley, but I couldn't find a tone I liked out of it. I wish I could have. I was really hoping that I was going to plug it in and it was going to give me an excuse to get it. I would still love to have it as a wall ornament, but I can't justify $1500 just to look at it.

I understand that every guitar is different, and there is a possibility the one I played was a bad example, but I just can't help but remember Eddie saying that he ruined the tone of the guitar when he cut that chunk out of it, and thinking that translated to the copy.
