Yikes, I've seen a few instances (with photos) of the baseplate broken where the knife edge inserts are secured by the little baseplate "arms". In theory, it's a potential weak spot. In practice, the trem is built well and it would still take some abuse to break those little arms.
While Gotoh makes great trems and the Edge is well loved, your situation highlights why I still feel that the OFR or the Gotoh GE1996T are superior from a design and material perspective, as both those trems have baseplates made out of one piece of solid steel with the knife edges being part of that one piece. The Edge has a zinc baseplate and those little knife edge inserts are solid steel, similar to the design of the OEM "Schaller tremolo" and our well-known Schaller/Jackson JT590.
I'm glad the seller compensated you though. How much did that new Edge cost? You might have come out slightly ahead especially if it was a completely new Edge with no wear!
diablomozart, you have me beat with those hot deals!
Try to name another big-brand Japanese-made rock/metal guitar that can be bought so plentifully and inexpensively on the used market as Japanese Ibanez and Japanese Jackson/Charvel guitars. Half my collection is made up of these bargains. To me, it's bizarre seeing used Indonesian Ibanez Premiums, used Indonesian Ibanez Iron Labels, used Indonesian/Mexican Pro Series Jacksons, and used Mexican Charvel Pro-Mods priced higher than used Japanese Ibanez Golden Era / Pre-Prestige, used Japanese Jackson Professional Series / Pro Series / MG Series, and used Japanese Charvel Model Series.
