Hey I just got a guitat tonight ,Ibanez 560 from notp, and it has a emg 81 and two sa's. Anyway I love the guitar but have never had emg's before, and they don't sound like i figured them to (zakk wylde, kirk hammett, etc.) these almost have a brittle sound compared to my other guitars. I put new strings on tonight so that might be part of the deal, but has any else had a problem with the sound of these pickup's the first time you played through them. And yes I changed the battery.

You are going to have to change your amp settings-but I like the 85 better than the 81 just seems darker to me and not brittle like you describe the 81. Personally I just think of the 81 as really flat. -

The 81 is more suited towards amp processing, as Cleveland Metal describes, whereas the 85 is more organic and sounds more like a classic pickup. I was meaning to change the 81 in the RG560 to an 85, but didn't get around to doing it because I'd been wanting to sell the guitar for a while now.
Also, I installed the EMG-EXG Guitar Expander circuit in there... make sure it's fully off if you want the humbucking sound rather than the boosted bass/treble "single coil" tone... I made that mistake when I got the guitar back from my tech who installed them. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
As I've mentioned in our Private Messages, I mostly used the RG560 as my Stratty-clean guitar, as it was easily the cleanest-sounding guitar I had. Sounded wicked with a touch of chorus, delay, and reverb. I had my KE3 and Shannon to rock out on at the time.
Plus, you could also swap out the pickups for the stock ones which I included in the package, but those pickups were rather noisy... [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Well I figured out the expander knob and it was on, turned off it is alot better, and your right the cleans are awesome on the guitar. Plus last night when I posted that thread I was getting up there on the beer level [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img], It, or I sounds alot better today. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I've got plenty of those little erasers in my desk left behind from when my cousin was in university ages ago. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
The basswood body might have something to do with it, but then again, the guitar itself was quite acoustically loud and had a pleasant sound to it.
I just ran the tracking number on FedEx's website and they've indeed confirmed that you have received the guitar, even though it was delivered without a signature. I'm really curious why they didn't need a signature. Did they just leave the guitar at your front door?Comment

Nah, my next door neighbor is the fedex driver around here, and he probably just forgot or something, He's a couple of sandwiches shy of a full picnic basket if you know what I mean.Comment

I find the EMG-81 to be awesome, once you do a little amp EQ tweaking. I've had them in several guitars and never once hated the sound.Comment
