My favorite would have to be my Les Paul.... However, back in my highschool band in 87 or so the other guitar player had this Ibanez Artist that kicked complete ass.... I even tried to trade him my 3A for it....
Gibby Explorers and old Deans z's do it for me. I like the Deans better actually because they are a little easier at the higher end. And the wicked ass big V headstock just gives me a woody! I also like the v neck shape on the older Deans too. The Explorer has a great neck shape too and I like the taller skinny frets on them for some reason. They just feel great for shredding. Sad that I sold my last Dean a week ago but I had to make room for what is coming in...
I've owned several set neck guitars from various manufacturers and I've stuck with Gibson. I currently have 15 set neck Gibsons and this is the type music I play with each (this is not set in stone, just a recommendation).
Flying V (Harder rock, metal)
Explorer (classic rock, hard rock, metal)
Les Paul Custom (Classic rock)
Les Paul Supreme (Blues, Jazz, Classic rock)
Firebird (Actually a neck thru) (Classic rock, hard rock)
SG Supreme (Classic rock, hard rock, metal)
Les Paul Standard (rock, hard rock, blues)
My first choice is Hamer, then I would probably go with the new Carvin CT. I have owned many Hamers, set necks and bolt ons, and I lean towards the set neck stuff and currently own 3 USA set neck Hamers:
Hamer Special
Hamer Firebird 2
Hamer Chapp Custom
If you would happen to find a great LP Standard with the 50`s neck carve, they are fantastic and I like gibsons pickups, especially the 500T form the Classics. I also love but can`t afford a Baker, now out of business, they are fantastic guitars. Jack.
I've tried a couple of McInturffs, same model, one with a maple top and one without. I thought they were good, but I still like Hamers better. The all mahogany model sounded much better to my ears. So I'm thinking that the next set neck guitar I get will be all mahogany. But who knows what could come along.
